Meet Rachael Semans of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Semans

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Passion Coffee Co. is a mobile espresso bar that was established in 2023 by the owner, Rachael Semans. Rachael took a gap year after graduating HighSchool in hopes to define her goals.
Through this gap year, it became more evident that serving coffee was the right route to take. Rachael’s passion for coffee, more specifically the creativity and hospitality that comes with it, was a huge driving factor in the vision and development of Passion. With the help of her supportive family and friends, and a wise coffee catering community, Passion began to grow from just a dream to a reality. Although based in Plano, Texas, Passion serves coffee all over the DFW area. The goal of Passion Coffee Co. is not to reach a specific number, but to provide a sense of community, intentionality, and connection that goes beyond the cup.
“By focusing on quality and personability, I hope to achieve a brand that exemplifies comfort, warmth, and excitement to remind you of the love that is greater than I, or any other person could show you. This has only been possible through the grace and gift that my Lord, Jesus Christ, is to me.” -Rachael

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a seamless journey! The biggest struggle I face right now is balancing working a full time job, preparing for a wedding, and running a small catering business by myself. In this season it has been more difficult to dedicate as much time to marketing and client relations, and just running the business itself, as I’d prefer. However, that’s no excuse not to provide excellence for my clients. It’s really important that I, along with anyone who is helping me, get all of the details about different catering events correct, even the small ones. It’s like a math equation, even if one minor thing is off, it could drastically effect the end result. Luckily, people are usually really understanding, and we all have one goal in mind- get the coffee to the people! Despite some crazy curveballs I and the baristas have faced, such as running out of items, or events being cancelled short notice, etc., we always find a way to redirect our plan and find a solution that positively impacts the client and / or guests.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the Assistant Supervisor at a public pool in the Dallas area. I was working part time with that company for about 6 years when I switched to full-time with them. In that promotion, I also switched locations. That was a wild transition considering I was learning a new role, new staff, and new location, at the same time; all right before summer, our busiest season. I am so grateful for this job and the opportunity I’ve had to be placed in this role. I work with a lot of high-schoolers and college students, and I love seeing them grow in knowledge, in skills, and watch them achieve their goals. I have a great team that knows how to support each other and isn’t afraid to ask questions. I’m also thankful I got this job when I did! The Lord knew I needed that boost, especially with the wedding around the corner!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love working and doing business in the Dallas area because it’s certainly a HUB, not just in Texas- but also the United States. It’s a great area of growth for small businesses like Passion, but with that also comes competition! There are a hand full of other stellar coffee carts in the area. Despite the friendly competition here and there, the mobile coffee world is a very tight knit community, and I love seeing the other carts develop and thrive, too.

Pricing:

  • Events 10-50 guests: start $300-$500
  • Events 50-150 guests: $500-$700
  • Events 150-250 guests: $700-$900+
