Meet Rachel Hill of Rachel Elaine Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Hill.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for photography started since I was a little girl. Watching my grandfather take pictures with his film camera and processing his images in a dark room was something I will always remember. Photography has been with me ever since I was a little girl.

For birthday presents, I would ask my Aunt to buy me a camera so that I could take pictures and then send it off to my local store for them to develop the images. To this day my aunt and I laugh and talk about how many cameras she would buy me for numerous occasions.

When I was at Baylor University, sic ’em bears, I traveled abroad to Rwanda and was showing others microfinance and how it can impact entire communities. While I was there I brought my camera and learned the true importance of having pictures. People in these communities had never seen themselves before, nonetheless, seen a picture of themselves. I saw people before me cry and fill up with so much joy of having something tangible of them to share and essentially pass down for future generations to enjoy.

After leaving Rwanda, I knew that I wanted to impact others lives and knew that the Lord was calling me to run my own business full time. It has been the biggest blessing now being a full time wedding photographer. Being able to offer my brides tangible images in their hands to pass down to future generations like I had when I was a little girl.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being self employed is not for the faint of heart. It requires a lot of prayers and dedication. If I were to advise anyone wanting to become their own boss, I would highly recommend it. You learn so much about yourself during this journey and you grow so much stronger in the process. Don’t look back just take the leap and you will be amazed at what you can achieve.

Please tell us about Rachel Elaine Photography.
Rachel Elaine Photography is a fine art photography that specializes in weddings, portraits, and lifestyle photography. I truly want my clients to have an experience from when we first meet to when they receive their images.

If I were to describe my style in a few words it would be film, clean, airy, and timeless.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The biggest lesson I have learned is to take that leap of faith. Jump higher than you ever thought that you could and trust that you can do it. A lot of the times I have learned that I am the one that gets in my own way. A quote that I quote often is by Babe Ruth: “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” I’m learning to dance in the rain and not live my life with what ifs and just be in the moment. This is what helps me be the artist that I am today.
