Meet Rachel Sanches of Baba’s Remedies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Sanches.

Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’m a Ukrainian-American, and I love health and wellness and helping others. I’m passionate about doing good and finding the best in people.

The desire to be an entrepreneur was something that started during my childhood. My sister and I launched our first venture, hand-making soaps and candles when we were tweens. I’ve gone on to experiment in many different areas of entrepreneurship. From starting a gym with friends to launching a fashion brand, I’ve always loved to try new things. I’ve also worked as an editor, writer, and in public relations.

I grew up in California and met my husband while he was serving as a Marine in San Diego. We’ve been married for 16 years and have 3 beautiful daughters, ages 4, 7, and 9.

I often dreamed of being a veterinarian as a kid because of my love for animals. We currently have 4 fur babies that are part of our family: a pug, retriever mix, schnoodle, and a rescue kitty.

So how did I end up in Texas? My husband is a proud Texan, and the pandemic brought us back to his hometown just outside of Austin. We love Austin and living in Texas.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. There are many roadblocks and twists in the road. One of the main struggles I’ve dealt with is time management. As a wife and a mom to 3 adorable daughters, my family’s needs come first. I also work freelance for other companies because being financially independent as an entrepreneur takes time. It’s exhausting but rewarding, and I’ve learned that being a successful business owner is all about your own expectations.

One of the key takeaways is that you really just need to be “flexible.” Flexible in your expectations, and mainly flexible with yourself. Allowing yourself some grace when things don’t work out exactly as you’d imagined and that the road to success is different for everyone. We all have our own definition of success; success for you might mean building a world-renowned brand that pays you generously, or it could mean raising awareness and money to give back to others through building your company. And that’s okay.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Baba’s Remedies?
Baba’s Remedies was started during the pandemic. I wanted to bring to life the age-old wisdom of my Babushka who narrowly escaped the Soviet Union with her family only to get put into a concentration camp in Germany. My grandparents and aunt were lucky to escape and eventually immigrated to the United States. My Baba always had the right remedy for ailments and was passionate about cooking and her Slavic heritage.

Our flagship product is an Immunity drink that is full of the vitamins necessary to maintain a healthy immune system. Our Immunity Powder is super popular with all ages (even kids!), because the taste is incredible. We are small-batch, Made in the USA, women-owned, and believe in helping others. In fact, a huge part of what we do is giving back. I’m a Ukrainian-American and have been supporting those in need through non-profits that work in Ukraine. Since the war in Ukraine started, we’ve launched several products focused entirely on raising awareness and fundraising for those in Ukraine.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
When the pandemic hit, it changed many things, including how we think about our health. I think that health and wellness will continue to grow as people are more conscious of their body’s needs physically and mentally than ever before. I think more people are turning to natural remedies and looking for alternatives to pharmaceuticals.
