Thanks for sharing your story with us Rain. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started getting interested in makeup as a creative outlet when I first started college. This hobby of mine eventually turned into my career. Friends started asking me to do their makeup for events, I became entranced with SFX makeup, and it all seemed to consume my life. I spend my free time researching makeup techniques and practices. I’ve been doing freelance makeup work for 5 years now and I would consider myself to be an expert on most makeup related topics.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My love for makeup really formed out of a place of darkness. I’ve struggled with depression for most of my adult life and turned to makeup as sort of a meditation medium. Makeup helped me escape from the world. I contribute a lot of today’s happiness on my makeup career.
Studio One16 – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a freelance makeup artist, a well rounded and researched one. I love all forms of makeup but my heart belongs to special effects (SFX) makeup. Fake blood and liquid latex make my heart flutter. Halloween is my favorite/busiest time of the year!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I gauge my success on how happy and healthy I am. I am the happiest and healthiest I have ever been since I’ve decided to pursue makeup full time.
