Meet Randy Russ of 1836 Home Inspections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Russ.

Hi Randy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the housing industry began on the ground floor, literally. In my younger years, I was framing homes and installing doors and windows, learning the bones of a house from the inside out. That hands-on foundation eventually led me to Lowe’s, where I spent a decade managing the commercial desk and millwork department. From there, I transitioned to the largest home remodeling company in Texas. However, after 13 years, I realized I had reached my ceiling there. I wanted a new challenge that honored my history with construction, and home inspection felt like the natural evolution of my career. While still working at the remodeling company it took me a year to complete my education through AHIT, and after passing both the National and State exams, I officially earned my Texas home inspector license.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most Texas small businesses, the road hasn’t been smooth, and thats ok. 1836 Home Inspections was built from the ground up, and in the beginning the biggest challenge was breaking into a crowded market and proving my value one homeowner at a time. In Texas, your reputation matters, and trust isn’t given, it’s earned through consistency and showing up when it counts.

There were long days and plenty of behind-the-scenes work that doesn’t make it into social media posts. I also faced pressure to grow faster or take shortcuts, but that never aligned with how I was raised or how I wanted to run a Texas business. I chose to do things the right way, thorough inspections, honest conversations, and straightforward reporting, even when it was the harder path.

Those challenges shaped the company. They reinforced the idea that in Texas, people value integrity, work ethic, and straight talk. That’s what 1836 Home Inspections stands on today, and it’s what continues to guide every inspection I perform. That’s why my slogan is Texas Proud-Texas Tough.

We’ve been impressed with 1836 Home Inspections , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
1836 Home Inspections exists to bring clarity and honesty to a process that’s often overwhelming. We provide residential home inspections across North Texas, working with buyers, sellers, and builders to deliver clear, straightforward assessments of a home’s condition.

What we’re known for is balance. Our inspections are thorough without being alarmist, and our reports focus on what actually matters, no fear-based language or unnecessary noise. We specialize in buyer inspections, pre-listing inspections, new construction, and services like thermal imaging and sewer scopes when they add real value.

What sets us apart is how we communicate. We don’t just hand over a report and disappear. We take time to explain findings, answer questions, and help clients understand the difference between normal homeownership maintenance and true concerns. That approach builds trust with both homeowners and real estate professionals.

What I’m most proud of is the reputation we’ve built. Much of our work comes from referrals, which speaks to the integrity behind the brand. 1836 Home Inspections is about protecting people and giving our clients the confidence to move forward with clear information.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my faith, my family, and living with integrity. As a Christian, I believe God has to be at the center of everything I do. My faith guides how I treat people, how I make decisions, and how I carry myself when no one’s watching. I strive to be honest, to serve others well, and to use the work I’ve been given to help people, not take advantage of them. At the end of the day, it’s about honoring God, taking care of my family, and leaving 1836 Home Inspections a legacy built on trust, humility, and doing what’s right, always.
