Meet Rashad Miller of The Uncool Urban in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashad Miller.

Rashad, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
What started out as a blog I did off and on again since 2013 has now become a podcast and on its way into a network of sorts with other projects in the works, including interviews with various figures from all walks of life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Personally, it was coming out of my shell, which is something I’m personally still working on. On the mic, it comes naturally, but off of it, I’m reserved and only talk to a few still. Also, learning about podcasting overall is still interesting. Starting a business is never easy and that process has been stressful at times, but I always meditate, take a deep breath, and go right back into it.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Right now, my brand is just in charge of a podcast network comprising of three shows, the main show (Uncool Urban Podcast), a show I do with Josh ‘Smilez’ Wilborn (Shad vs. Smilez), and Josh’s solo project (Music Mpulse). I’m looking into other things to invest in as we speak. I’m happy how much we’ve been embraced by the podcast community in the city as well as around the country. I’m proud to put out a product that people enjoy and I hope whatever we do separately and together, everyone will continue to support. I’m also cutting my teeth at interviewing athletes. I’m a fan of sports and never really saw myself getting into it but the little I’ve done so far has gotten positive feedback.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m a hometown kid, so the familiarity with the city is the best thing about it to me. I also love the fact that Dallas is building and growing at the pace that it is and people from all over the country are starting to love this city as much as I do. The thing I hate the least is really just more of an opinion: more inclusiveness and less exclusiveness. There’s a lot of creatives from all walks of life. Embrace them!
