Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Najera.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Los Angeles, California. I have been around art my whole life primarily tattoos. Throughout the years I would take what art classes I could. I went to college at the California State University of Los Angeles with a major in fine arts. After graduating, I moved to Dallas Texas. Trying to find a way to make art a career I decided to pursue tattooing full time. I had learned how to tattoo through the years from my father who owns his own shop in Los Angeles. Now I’m pushing my artwork to take me into more fulfilling avenues in the arts.
Please tell us about your art.
I have been tattooing for eight years, full time for four years. I love to create beautiful tattoos that people can take with them and feel great about their new artwork. I am inspired by many artists in the industry as well as master painters. The message I like to send through my artwork is feel good about yourself and your image. Tattoos tell a story about your past and where you’re headed in life. I hope people can take my tattoos and feel great about themselves, walking around with new confidence showing off their artwork. I enjoy creating artwork on people. There are many styles I enjoy doing especially line work, geometric work along with other styles. I really hope to grow as an artist every day and become the best tattoo artist I can.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I believe it can be difficult for artists to make a career out of art. Tattoos are becoming increasingly popular, so I believe the tattoo industry is a great career to pursue if you have a love for the arts. I think it is true that how much you put in is how much you’ll get back. The harder you work, the easier it is to develop a following. I believe your passion shows in your artwork.
