Meet Ray and Jaida Pryor of Pryority Finance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray and Jaida Pryor.

Hi Ray and Jaida, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We met in college, in an elevator, to be exact. It was crazy, though, because we had so many mutual friends that neither of us have any idea how we didn’t meet earlier on in college. Regardless though, from the very beginning, it was clear that our relationship was one that would change both of our lives for the better, forever. And it has. We bonded over the common threads that guide both of our lives: faith, family, and our futures. Also sports. At the root of everything we do is our love for serving our communities and loving on our people. Out of those two aspects of what make up the Pryors, our podcast, PryorityPod and the whole “Pryority” brand was born. We emphasize letting the important things be important and keeping our pryorities straight. Remembering and living by those perspectives, as well as the perspective we gain from the Bible is what grounds us and guides us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We intended to be married in July of 2020, which of course, was in the middle (of the beginning) of the pandemic. When word of covid hit the social media streets in March of last year, we had to switch up our plans and make new ones. It required lots of flexibility and lots of faith, but it ended up more beautifully than we ever could have imagined. We ended up getting married on Juneteenth in Jaida’s parents’ backyard with family present. Right after the wedding is when we launched PryorityPod, and one thing that was clear for us from the beginning was that we wanted to use PryorityPod to serve, not just to be another voice among the masses. A challenge during covid though that we did not anticipate is the fact that we go through sprints of inspiration only to run into dead ends every now and then in terms of content creation. Sometimes, when we are watching or reading the news, what we typically see or watch on social media can feel so unimportant compared to the things people are seeing and going through every day. All in all, maintaining consistency among the heaviness of life in general right now has definitely been a struggle.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pryority Finance?
Pryority Finance is a virtual accounting firm that’s dedicated to making taxes less taxing for entrepreneurs and their families. We specialize in business tax preparation & planning, bookkeeping & accounting, and LLC formation & management. We pride ourselves on being translators and educators, not just tax professionals. Accounting is the universal language of business, yet most people in our community never learned anything about taxes in school or at home. We partner with like-minded leaders who have a vision to not just launch and grow a successful business but also build a legacy that will last and be passed down in their families for generations. As a part of this mission and ministry, we use our website, social media, podcast, and webinar platforms to host financial literacy sessions that educate and empower our family, clients, and the larger community about taxes and personal finance.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Our advice is to start. Do not be so paralyzed by the pursuit of perfection or the feeling of fear that you are prevented from starting. You are capable and strong and worthy regardless, and operating from this perspective is freeing because you focus on how you can get better each day instead of spending valuable time and energy on what you did wrong. And don’t let anyone tell you that you are too much, too little, too young, too old, or too anything. The world rewards those who are courageous and consistent over those who obsess over perfection. Your gifts will make room for you, especially with the courage and consistency necessary to hone your craft. So starting and keeping the faith are both of the utmost importance. Sometimes courage looks like asking for help or support when you need it, and sometimes it looks like starting; consistency always looks like putting one foot in front of the other, even when the punches keep coming. Courage. Consistency. Growth. That’s what we wish we had known when we started out, and it’s an idea we’d like to share and pay forward.
