Today we’d like to introduce you to Reavine Parker.
Reavine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi!! I’m Reavine Parker a.k.a. FoxyPrimMakeup. Let me start by saying it took me years to get to the point where I am today because I would not do people’s makeup for nothing in me. When someone would ask me, I would say no because I was just too nervous. One day in 2017, a girl I used to work with asked me to do her make up for her cousin quinceañera and because me and her are cool, I was like sure and I snatched her face with everything in me and that gave me the confidence. I have been building my confidence along the way by teaching myself by watching some of my favorite MUAs on YouTube and practicing. But one night in March of 2019, I was talking with my cousins and I was telling them I could wake up every day and snatch a face for the gawds (meaning I could do someone makeup really good). So, on March 4, 2019, I woke up went to work and at my desk, I started my makeup page and started putting my services out there.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a struggle and one of the main struggles was building my confidence to do someone else’s makeup. When I do something, I want it to be perfect and I was putting a lot of pressure on myself. I was seeing others and telling myself I should be at a certain level by now or I needed to do certain looks for people to like my skills. For me, it’s hard stepping out of my comfort zone but I’m a spiritual person so I had to stop, listen to God, be myself, and do what I felt was best for me and show people beauty products that I like. The day I decided to put myself and my services out to people and to pursue my passion I knew every day wasn’t going to be roses but this is what I want to do.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
FoxyPrimMakeup is a makeup service that I want to use to enhance a person’s appearance whether it be through makeup application or to heighten a person’s natural beauty. I feel that I specialize in the application of ebony complexion makeup. With me being a woman of dark complexion, it used to be a struggle to find foundations that matched my skin. I would have to mix foundations together sometimes to get my color. I want to be known for my understanding of how ebony complexions have different undertones and that you match those undertones as well as the complexions.
What I’m most proud about with FoxyPrimMakeup and what makes it stand out is that it represents the everyday woman and I can relate to my clients. I understand the mindset that you want to step out and stunt without having to spend a lot of money on the preparation. When I was younger, I wasn’t always able to afford to get my makeup done so I learned how to do it myself. I pride myself on the fact that when a young lady says they want their makeup done but can’t afford the full price, I work something out with them because I used to be that younger lady.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’d like to say my proudest moment is being considered to do this interview for the article. Being noticed for the article to me means that my grind and hustle are paying off and I need to keep at and keep going.
