Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started volunteering in low-income taxpayer clinics about 15 years ago, volunteering my time preparing taxes. There I learned so much, I learned how this industry could be so cut throat, how others took advantage of taxpayers in this industry, I wanted to do it differently and correctly, I have always had a passion for people and helping others, I did not come from a family that was wealthy and I had to work hard for everything.
Nonetheless, I love to help others, I stepped out on faith and I started my own business which started from my bedroom, Because I was in my bedroom, I prepared taxes for the few clients I had for free, just did not feel right charging at that time. Within a few years I learned all I needed to learn, the laws, the dos and don’ts …My clientele grew even out of my home, finally I moved into an office building and my clientele has doubled, I counsel my clients, I do not just do their taxes, I educate them. So many people have come to me after being taken advantage of and I make it right, I am not the highest paid in this industry because although I have bills, I do not do it for the money, I love what I do, I love the look on my clients faces when they leave my office, I love easing my client’s minds when they arrive. I also host back to school drives yearly where I purchase back to school supplies for the low-income kids in the area, I sponsor children and families for Christmas and Thanksgiving, As I said, I am far from rich but giving warms my heart in a way I just cannot explain.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No it has not, I find in the times we are living in now, no one really wants to help others without getting something in return, A lot of the things I had to learn about my business was trial and error, I has to lose a lot to finally get to the right place, I didn’t have any investors, or business partners, I work a full time job and used that money to put into my business, I did not have any business credit, so everything had to be purchased a little at a time, I sacrificed a lot because I knew what good works I could do for my community and it was all worth it, I am still not where I want to be, but each year I am further than I was, everything that I have learned, I read and researched, I am still learning new things.

I am also available to you year-round, I do not shut down shop after you have received your money. There are so many companies out here today, that are just doing the same thing year after year and getting the same results. Here at TaxTyme, I pride myself of keeping up with all of the new tax laws year after year, I study your information year after year to see where there are new ways that you can get more money back in taxes or not owe money to the IRS. No matter who does your taxes, you should always leave that office knowing everything that went on as far as your taxes are concerned. I also started a non-profit that allows me to help others in my community with Tax Audits, and other Community Service needs.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up an only child. However, I was not spoiled, I was taught so much as a child, I always had a giving personality, always wanted to do the right thing, never wanted to be in any trouble. As a young child, I always wanted to start a business, I didn’t know what at that time, But I did know I wanted to own one. I loved reading as a child, my grandmother taught me to read before I was even in school.
