Meet Rebecca Hogg of Canvas Counseling & Wellness, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Hogg.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since high school I remember friends calling me their psychologist or counselor. I used to devour all the human nature and psychology courses in college and after 2 other careers I finally landed on the one I always wanted and it was the perfect timing. My first counseling role was at a school and I thought I would be working with kids for the rest of my life. But when my position suddenly became eliminated, I found myself reevaluating that belief and questioning if I wanted to do something totally new.

After some research and prayer and tears overcoming fear, I realized I wanted some freedom and flow in my life and decided to take a calculated enough risk and open my own private practice. I took the first steps and opened Canvas Counseling & Wellness in 2019. And adding the word “Wellness” to the name was very important to me because intuitively I knew therapy alone wasn’t enough. I wanted to support people in considering the whole holistic picture, from their physical health to relationships, career, time and more.

I intentionally created Canvas to include a wide range of therapeutic modalities including somatic work, trauma therapy intensives and therapeutic coaching. I expanded beyond traditional counseling to support people who don’t necessarily need clinical mental health treatment but feel stuck, overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted and unsure of how to move forward. My work helps us feel more connected to ourselves when we regulate our nervous system, get out of fight or flight mode, recover from burnout and trust ourselves again so we can live a life full of freedom and flow.

One theme that consistently drives my work is our relationship with time. I believe the past, present and future aren’t actually fixed. Healing in the present can transform the past and create a different future changing the trajectory of our lives. That framework eventually became the foundation for my book, Healing TIME, which guides people in changing their relationship with time so healing and growth don’t feel rushed or overwhelming.

Today, my practice is built around helping clients create lives that actually feel aligned with their values, goals and dreams – not just lives that look good from the outside. The path here wasn’t linear but it was definitely intentional. And it continues to evolve as the work deepens.

Some clients work with me through licensed counseling for trauma and mental health support, while others choose therapeutic coaching when they don’t need clinical treatment but want structured, somatic nervous-system-informed guidance to move forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been smooth and I don’t think it was supposed to be. I can say I am who I am and my business is what it is, not because of what I went through but because of what I worked through.

One of the challenges was creating something for clients that didn’t fit into existing categories. My work is a blend of therapy, holistic wellness support and personal growth coaching, which means resisting pressure to oversimplify what I do just to be more marketable.

There have been lots of times where speed was rewarded around me and depth was not. I had the opportunity to make peace with growing at a different pace than some peers while staying committed to work that I felt called to. My vision is that healthy individuals lead to healthy families, healthy communities, and thereby a healthy world.

On a personal level, I was building this business while dismantling old beliefs about productivity, worth, and time. I was learning how to lead, create, and serve without sacrificing my nervous system in the process. That meant saying no to some things that looked good on the outside and yes to decisions that felt aligned but uncertain.

Those challenges shaped Canvas and in the end I’m glad I didn’t rush what needed more time, thought and care to be done well.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Canvas Counseling & Wellness, PLLC?
Canvas Counseling & Wellness believes there’s no need for shame and that we can actually live more of the life we want. And it starts with getting the right kind of support.

Although I work with all adults, I specialize in helping overwhelmed and emotionally exhausted women get unstuck by healing their nervous system and their relationship with time. I love working with creative, intellectually and spiritually curious women who want more out of life – more joy, more freedom, more flow – but have no idea how to get from where they are struggling to where they want to be. My work blends therapy, somatic and nervous-system-based approaches and personal growth coaching to help clients reconnect with their body and move forward with peace, confidence and trust in themselves again.

I also incorporate body-based tools like the Zencora vibroacoustic table, which uses sound and gentle vibration to help the nervous system slow down and settle. I originally brought it into my practice as a way to support meditation and rest without effort, and it’s become a powerful way for clients to experience deep relaxation, presence, and regulation in a very tangible way.

What sets Canvas apart is the holistic focus on time and somatic safety. Many people are living in constant urgency without realizing it. I help clients shift their relationship with time so decisions feel clearer, healing feels & is possible, and growth becomes sustainable instead of exhausting.

What I’m most proud of is that Canvas doesn’t rush anyone or sell quick fixes. Everything I offer is grounded, practical, and designed to meet clients where they actually are. Whether someone is doing somatic work, trauma healing or therapeutic coaching, the goal is the same: restore trust in yourself, your pace, & what you need.

It’s not about doing things “perfectly right” or pushing yourself faster than you’re able to go. It’s about creating enough safety and emotional support so change can happen naturally.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people assume that the way I work with clients comes from training alone. What surprises others is that the foundation of everything I do came from wrestling with my own relationship with time. Feeling behind, feeling pressure to heal faster, perform better and have it all figured out already.

I understand what it feels like to be overwhelmed, burned out, confused, alone, and stuck. I understand what it’s like to not feel good enough or worthy. My own personal healing in this area informs my work with clients and I have seen that be beneficial – people want to work with others who truly “get it.”

For myself and my clients, my aim is to notice where urgency shows up, where we push ourselves too hard, and where slowing down actually creates momentum.

The feeling of peace, clarity and calm that clients who work with me experience was built over time and that’s what I help others do too.
