Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah and Jeremy Hagman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband Jeremy and I moved to Waco in July of 2017, after just having gotten married in May. We both had careers investing in the community, he was an educator and I had been in non-profit development. When we moved to Waco, we knew we wanted to make an impact and I had a lifelong dream of creating an event venue and community space. Together, we recognized Waco had a need for an art space and creative hub and we launched Cultivate 7Twelve. Over the last two years, we have had the joy of working hard and seeing big impact culturally here in Waco; we have hosted a Banksy work, started a Chalk Art event, hosted live music and theater events, and sold the work of local artists, hosting thousands of Wacoans and visitors in our space. With 9200 SQ feet, we also have artist studios and creative non-profit workspaces, host classes and workshops and are a go-to venue for celebrating life’s big moments like weddings, birthdays and baby showers. It has been very challenging at times, but there have been great moments of joy!
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning Cultivate has been a wild ride full of challenges and joys, opening a brick and mortar business in downtown Waco has been a huge risk, but the community that has risen up around us is so incredible. The artists, musicians, artisans, creatives and visionaries who are together building the cultural renaissance in Waco are a powerful and inspiring force. We are still working hard to get to profitability, but we have reached the 2-year mark thanks to a fundraiser we had over the summer and the awesome way the community responded. We regularly get generous feedback from community members thanking us for being in Waco and that is a huge inspiration to keep going.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cultivate 7Twelve story. Tell us more about it.
We are an art gallery, creative hub and event venue. Our mission is to cultivate the arts and culture of Waco and thankfully, that’s what we are doing!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Waco is having a cultural renaissance and I am certain the next 5-10 years, will see our city become even more of a cultural destination.
