Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Delaney.
Deanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a registered nurse specializing in Oncology for 20 years. My background also includes hospice nursing. I have always been an avid fitness addict and have been working out in some facet since I was in my teens.
Last year, I had some physical limitations placed on my health, due to multiple leg surgeries and a knee replacement. I also was considering leaving the world of caregiving. I had 12 months of literally laying on my back and looking up, questioning “what is my purpose in life? “, and” how can I continue making a difference in other people’s lives? ”
I also did some self- examination as to how I was currently living my life. I promote physical fitness, healthy eating, and spiritual practice but was not entirely ” walking the talk”.
So, I made some radical changes. I stopped drinking alcohol entirely. I began painful daily workouts at the gym, I began preparing healthy nutritious meals for myself for Monday through Sunday, and set aside a period of time every day for meditation and prayer. I Restored Balance Within. I will be 60 years old next year, but I feel thirty years younger today.
I decided that I would make a career change. Instead of giving people chemotherapy, I now help woman restore their health and vitality through Health Coaching. I am a Holistic nurse, that looks at the whole body. We are made up of Body, Mind, and Spirit. If one of the components is unbalanced, the rest will follow suit.
With my nursing background, I review my client’s health history and medications, and physical limitations. I then design a nutrition plan, fitness program and spiritual practice that is specialized to fit them.
We also look at stress factors in their life. It is a known fact that stress can cause disease, so it is vital to examine those areas and eliminate the sources.
I love my new “purpose in life”. I work from home and am able to work with my clients via video consultation from all over the United States.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life has many bumps, twists and turns in the road. I have found that during the hardest periods in my life I have gained great wisdom, strength, and have made some radical positive changes.
Having to deal with physical limitations and chronic pain caused stress in my life. Also, dealing with fears about career change really stretched me. Depression has a way of sneaking up on even the healthiest person, when life feels ” out of control”. Once I put my health as a priority and received help from outside sources, my life became
“whole” again.
Please tell us about Restore Balance Within.
My company is named,” Restore Balance Within”. I am a Health and Wellness coach specializing in woman’s nutrition, fitness, and spirituality. I am also a registered nurse that takes an holistic approach in achieving whole health. The goal is to help my clients find balance in their busy lives so that they can feel more energized, focused, and positive about their health and wellbeing.
My clients learn how to “listen to their body” to determine what types of food provide them with energy, and which foods deplete energy. I guide them in habit change and design a program that will help restore their health.
I am their accountability partner, cheerleader, and non-judgmental counterpart.
Our goal is to restore health to body, mind and spirit.
What sets me apart is that I have experience with preparing nutritional plans for clients experiencing immune deficiency, inflammation, gluten intolerance, hormone imbalance, and cardiac disease.
I have experience working with clients that have an unhealthy relationship with food such as emotional eating . I struggled with an eating disorder called anorexia in my youth. Many people use food as a means of coping in an unhealthy way.
I may suggest various alternative treatments for health conditions and make referrals where needed.
I have a meditation Podcast on Apple called Restore Balance Within- Morning Grounding Meditations.
I also post cooking videos and recipes on my Facebook site
I also offer a unique opportunity at my farm for people to get away from stress and the fast life and recharge. This is a One Day Mini Retreat with Horses. This is a non-riding event where you receive the benefits of horse therapy, a light lunch, and a journal, 1:1 Guided Meditation.
I assist clients in finding alternative treatments for conditions and refer them to other specialists as needed.
