Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Collins.
Rhonda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in my profession for 13 years. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be in the beauty industry as a professional makeup artist. I would always sneak into my mom’s room and put on her lipstick.
Right after graduation, I applied for a position at a cosmetic store. It was then I knew I was destined for the amazing journey! The beautiful colors, the textures, the different techniques, but most importantly, the way it made people feel!
I would watch my customers and it’s like as soon as they swiped that first swatch of lipstick, they came alive!!! It was more than putting on makeup, it was an ART! Of course, I wanted to dive deeper, so I did my homework, went through training and became certified as a professional makeup artist.
After working for that company for a year, I went on to work for 3 more prestigious cosmetic companies in the next 4 years before finally stepping out on faith and pursuing my own brand as an entrepreneur in 2012. That’s when CHEÈKBYRHONDA was born!
I’m super blessed with an established clientele/business that keeps me going. I’ve also been honored to work with some amazing people!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having comes easy that’s for sure! But, I can honestly say, it has been a pretty amazing journey for me. I am overjoyed to be able to do what I love every day. I turned my passion into my paycheck and I still can’t believe it. I wake up sometimes and I’m still in awe about the abundance of blessings that have been bestowed upon me. My motto has always been plain and simple: work hard, remain humble and let your work speak for itself. In my case, it definitely has. I don’t want to be famous, just my work.

CHEÉKBYRHONDA is a brand. It is a lifestyle of Glam!

I’m a professional makeup artist with extensive experience in the commercial, beauty, fashion and bridal industries located in surrounding cities within Texas.
I’m so proud of my company and how much it has grown in the past few years.
In the rise of social media, it has allowed my brand to market, network and flourishes tremendously. My work has been featured on VH1.com, Essence, Huffington Post, Modern Luxury Dallas Magazine, D Weddings, KRAVE Magazine, SHOW magazine, Aspire TV, FOX 4 News, CW33 News, and Good Morning Texas.
I’ve been known to be a ‘celebrity makeup artist’ accommodating the stars when they’re in the Big D! (MaryMary, Vivica Fox, Cardi B, June’s Diary, Blac Chyna, Angela Simmons, Charlie Baltimore, Michelle Williams, Porsha Williams…just to name a few) but I really take pride in ensuring that my ‘everyday client’ is treated just as special if not more. I roll out the red carpet for all of my beautiful clients. Getting your makeup done is not just a service, It’s an experience, a luxury! They’re the celebrity not because of their status, but because they deserve it! Rough week, problems with the job, at home or with bae?… All that is null and void once they come sit in my chair. It’s like all their problems are brushed away one stroke at a time. They get to unwind and refresh!
That moment, the client looks in the mirror and her mouth opens wide in complete awe or tears of joy is the reason why I do what I do. I’ve always said, ‘When you look good, you feel good!’
