Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Rast.
Rhonda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband knew the previous owner and was a customer of the business for 12 years. The previous owner wanted to retire and was looking for someone to buy his creation and love it as much as he did. It was a perfect fit! I retired from banking and became the owner of the greatest cigar shop in the world.
The store manager – David Dalquest is a brilliant educator who has a passion for his favorite subjects; tobacco, cigars and pipes!
The store has a private member lounge where the members have 24/7 access. The members are family and have welcomed me with open arms.
We host monthly events featuring some of the biggest and brightest personalities in the cigar world! We publish a monthly newsletter to keep our customers informed.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a very smooth road! The business was quite successful under the leadership of Jim Klipp. David Dalquest, the store manager, has remained with the company and is committed to seeing it grow.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tobacco Cabana story. Tell us more about the business.
We are known for the strength of our knowledge about cigars, pipes and tobacco. Our customer service is top-notch and we care about our product. We remove all our cigars from the box and display them on humidified shelves in cabinets. We feel that it’s the best way to take care of the tobacco. Our customers say we have the largest selection of pipes and tobacco in the area. Our private member’s lounge is one of only a few 24/7 lounges in Texas. Our members and customers are considered family.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our industry is certainly under-fire. We are associated with the IPCPR – International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailer’s Association, as well as, CRA – Cigar Rights of America. They provide us with knowledge and support, help us survive and grow in an uncertain time and lobby for all cigar/pipe smoking adults in the USA. The CRA also provides, on their website, the ability for us to communicate easily to our elected politicians to ensure that our voices are heard. Our industry is currently very strong and with the help of these organizations, we hope to continue to grow and prosper.
