Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Tran.
Ricky, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had Nashville hot chicken for the first time on a vacation with friends. When I came back to Dallas, I could not find anything that was similar in taste or could be considered Nashville hot chicken. I came from a background of engineering and went about studying how this dish was created and created my own version. I gave it to friends/family, started an IG (rickyshotchicken) and then gave it to people on social media. It then became paid samples I brought to people all over the DFW. Supporters would set notifications and wait for my posts for the next available time slot for samples.
After much data collection, validation and verification, I sought to open a brick and mortar. Funny enough, the first place I inquired about and had no luck is the place we currently are. People may think this happened overnight, but it has been over two years in the making from the first time I gave samples out.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The support has been my backbone. I’ve always been somewhat doubtful and optimistic about what could be, but everyone has been there to give me feedback on areas I could improve. Numerous recipe revisions and taste sessions were the norms.
