Today we’d like to introduce you to RICKY WOODALL.
Hi RICKY, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, I have been building scale models since I was around the age of 9. Took a few years break from the hobby when my daughters were transitioning to high school from grade school. My career took a lot of my free time as well.
I got back into the hobby of scale modeling around 5 years ago after moving from North Louisiana To Pensacola, Fl.. Between then and now I have managed to start and grow a YouTube channel with a substantial following. My local Auto modeling club called Panhandle Automotive Modeling Society (P.A.M.S.) has elected me President for the past 2 years. I Am the administrator for the P.A.M.S. Facebook page as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have grown as a club leader. There were of course a few struggles. Like getting over public speaking, Learning how to run a meeting & getting into a position of authority but maintaining a personable relationship as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My YouTube channel is centered around building scale model cars. It Is Called Shaggy’s AWWSM Garage. Of course shaggy is a nickname given me by a professional acquaintance I once knew. He said that I looked like “Shaggy” from Scooby Doo. Of course the moniker stuck and I’ve gone with it ever since. I have learned that being a content creator is another hobby in itself. I find it very rewarding watching all the video editing and graphics manipulation come together. It is sometimes more enjoyable than actually building a scale model. However building model cars is still a passion and I try to get to it every chance I get. My creative mind is always working on something whether it be a model or a video of a tutorial of what it takes to produce a model or the the tools and skills you need to build one.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those who interested in starting the hobby of automotive model building I would suggest start with a few simple kits with low parts count, Maybe a snap kit. or easy level assembly. And go slow building your skills as you grow. There is always time for improvement. We are all still improving even myself.
