Today we’d like to introduce you to Ritu Bhalla.
Ritu, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My grandmother always had a love of healthcare and wished my mother to become a doctor. She didn’t have opportunity to pursue this dream as she had chicken pox and missed the day the medical entrance exam was administered. Instead, my mother ended up getting a masters in Political Science, and her desire of becoming a doctor, which was instilled in her by my grandmother, was passed down to me. My mother wanted me to achieve what she had been unable to do. As I explored my career options as a young girl, healthcare spoke most strongly to me. I knew I was meant to go into a field that would help others unconditionally.
Becoming a healthcare provider was certain for me, but the inspiration to pursue alternative healing for me was sparked by an unfortunate event early in my life. When I was in 5th grade, my uncle fell sick and decided to receive treatment at a naturopathic hospital. During our visits to him, I, myself, experienced different naturopathic therapies. Those memories of steam, sun baths, fresh squeezed juices to rejuvenate health vividly stayed with me. Experiencing certain treatments myself and hearing about the naturopathic doctor from my uncle and how fulfilled he was, led me to pursue Ayurvedic Education and the rest is history.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge has been the lack of exposure of Ayurvedic medicine in the United States, specifically Texas. Ayurvedic medicine, in particular, has been around since ancient times. The eastern world knowledgeable about the effects of Ayurvedic medicine, and thus such treatments are used by in large by many people in that part of the world. The western world is more comfortable with modern medicine, which sometimes limits the exposure of people towards Ayurvedic medicine and all its amazing effects.
This lack of exposure has been challenging for me as insurance companies don’t cover Ayurvedic treatments in their healthcare plans, and some people are not open to spending money. Also, some people are wary to explore the unknown. A part of my goal as an Ayurvedic practitioner, Educator and business owner is to bring awareness to the western world about the marvels of ancient, natural healing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sukhveda – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best part about our city is the fact that it is so diverse and the fact that there are so many opportunities. I love meeting new people every day and I love how the culture of Dallas is constantly evolving due to migration and expansion.
The only part of Dallas, if I HAVE to pick, that I like least, would be how big it is. Where this promotes opportunities, it’s hard to reach everyone due to the sheer size and space that we are spread out in. The internet and technology has definitely helped make it a smaller place, so it’s a very minor dislike.
