Meet Rob Rosenberg of Horizon Air Group in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Rosenberg.

Rob, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked for my father’s business directly out of college for 7 years. We had 23 retail fitness stores throughout Texas selling residential equipment to consumers. My father sold the company to his business partner which led me on a pursuit to the next opportunity. My best friend and current business partner Randall Mize was at the time one of the youngest captains on a business jet and mentioned a company in Dallas that he was working for. The company was based in Houston but were apparently moving operations to Dallas, long story short I was one of three hired to start selling charter under my current business partner Luis Barros. After 3 and a half years with that company Luis decided to leave and start Horizon Air Charter (HAC). 6 months later I joined him, 1 year later Randall joined the team. At that moment we created a second division of our company called Horizon Aircraft Sales & Acquisitions (HAS). Recently we acquired the company where we all used to work, which now enables us to operate aircraft creating Horizon Jet Management (HJM). We are more than likely 3 of the youngest individuals with full control and ownership of an organization that has all 3 segments in the private aviation industry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As you know starting a company will always have days filled with extreme highs and extreme lows. The key is to ride the highs and manage the lows keeping focus on the big picture. The biggest endeavor is the air carrier, Horizon Jet Management as we are basically a mini airliner which comes with tremendous responsibility. We are governed by the FAA which is one of the most regulated governing bodies out there, with good reason! Since there are three partners, you will always find one of us lifting up the other when certain challengers seem too big to tackle. I have known Randall for over 20 years and Luis for 6 making our day to day decisions seamless as we basically know what the other is thinking already.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Horizon Air Group – what should we know?
The recent acquisition of the air carrier certificate makes Horizon Air Group one of the largest air charter organizations throughout the south central United States. We are most proud of the fact that we are one of the only companies in the country fully dedicated to all three major sales functions within the private aviation industry: Aircraft Management, Charter Brokerage, and Aircraft Sales and Acquisitions. Horizon can now immediately offer these services, and utilizing the company’s previously developed network, are in a prime position to begin helping jet owners generate more revenue through charter activity. The Part 135 air carrier certificate, which is ARGUS Platinum rated and has worldwide operating authority, is a valuable addition to its strong portfolio of offerings.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I would have to say that being involved with another operation before starting Horizon Air Group gave us the insight into what works and what does not. I would say we all have our own individual mentors that we gain guidance from however relying on each other’s expertise helps us tremendously.
