Meet Robbie Werner of Stir Crazy Baked Goods in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robbie Werner.

Robbie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started with a [really naive] vision to have my own bakery someday, and what started with a pipe dream turned into something very tiny and very real. In 2012, we opened a 500 square foot space in an unheard-of corner of Fort Worth, what is now the booming South Main Village. Three years later we expanded onto Magnolia Avenue, which is our home base for everything we do now! It’s been exciting to watch our little place grow into this neighborhood staple, where we bake for lots of wholesale accounts, too. What hasn’t changed at all is that everything we bake is still small-batch craft American goods, using our family’s recipes daily.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wish I could say our road has been a smooth one, but it seems every time we get more experience under our belts, the more we want to try something new and different! It always takes a while to work out the kinks of the next experiment, but then we reach that cycle of getting good at what we’re doing again. New staff, new recipes, bigger events, new hours, we’ve done it all!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Stir Crazy Baked Goods – what should we know?
Nothing in our baked goods is made with hydrogenated oils, is GMO-free, and is completely all-natural (well… unless people really want food coloring and sprinkles, and then we give them a food coloring and sprinkles!).

Stir Crazy is proudly woman-owned and women-run!

Part of our proceeds goes toward charitable organizations throughout the year, with an emphasis on education, health, and the arts.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Oh, wow – if we didn’t have the support of other people, we most certainly would not be in business! Our families gave us lots of recipes from family cookbooks, and lots of advice on how to make certain recipes work. None of our staff has actual culinary degrees – we all have an undergraduate or graduate degree or just plain old life experience, but we share the love of baking at home. I have them to thank for sharing my same passion that they bring to the bakery each day. What is awesome about Fort Worth is the shared experience of being entrepreneurs without a ton of experience in business.

We are all learning together, it seems, and this revolution of the Mom and Pop is alive and well here. The camaraderie helps everyone to meet in the middle, with support, answers to questions we might not know, and a general DIY spirit that gets us through some crazy times. Near Southside, Inc. is, I think, the best business association around because we shop owners are treated as actual neighbors. They lend a hand when we need it. They provide resources to people who can help us better our businesses. They bring a crowd to this part of Fort Worth that might be off the beaten path for a lot of people. We all work together!
