Meet Robert Kaufmann of Fort Worth Fertility

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Kaufmann.

Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After completing graduate studies in biochemistry at Columbia University, I went on to medical school at the Sackler School of Medicine, studying Ob/Gyn. I thought Ob/Gyn was fun and after I saw a baby born for the first time, I knew I wanted to continue on this path. In my third year of med school, I did a reproductive endocrinology rotation and thought fertility was fun and surgery was still involved. In the 80s, fertility was still just starting so I decided to pursue a fellowship in this field. I wanted to do academic medicine so I applied and received a prestigious grant to look into pre-implantation genetic testing. I continued in academia until I was recruited to come to DFW for private practice. I decided to open my own practice, Fort Worth Fertility, after about a year and we have been helping people start or grow their families here ever since!

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life is a smooth road, right? I think the biggest obstacle is maximizing pregnancy rates and helping patients understand their options. We focus on patient care, of course, so that trickles down to everything to financial aspects of patients affording treatment and staff. This is a business, but there are always going to be “headaches,” but we’ve been very fortunate to have more positive than negative.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our practice, Fort Worth Fertility, is a fertility clinic located in the heart of downtown Fort Worth. We specialize in helping patients with a variety of treatments ranging from timed intercourse, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in-vitro fertilization (IVF), pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT), third-party services (donor egg, sperm and surrogacy) and surgery. We are well known for providing a high level of patient care and affordable options for all family types.

I’m definitely most proud of the fact patients allow me to help them. They entrust me with their potential family and that’s a big honor.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Fort Worth was so welcoming when I first started. Opening private practice is always a little daunting, but I knew we could do it and I knew there was a lot of potential for success. People tend to think of Dallas and Fort Worth as big cities, but when it comes to specialties, they really are quite cozy. When I first started, I “hit the pavement,” so to speak and just went to meet all the Ob/Gyns in the area. They are some very good friends of mine now.
