Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Torres.
Roberto has more than 15 years’ experience in global markets, private equity, real estate, and corporate finance. Previously, Roberto held senior management positions at three different investment banks. He was the Head of Mexico FX Trading and Senior Latin America FX Trader at BNP Paribas on Wall Street. Roberto ran the Mexico FX book at Citigroup NY, and was in charge of Mexico, Colombia, and Peru FX trading at Standard Chartered Bank NY.
In addition to TopDesk Co-Working, Roberto also founded Liquid Capital Savvy Solutions and a distressed real estate private equity fund.
Roberto is a proud husband, and father of two young boys.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never truly a smooth way, there are always obstacles and challenges to overcome, but this can be a real positive thing as it keeps you going, adapting, thinking outside the box.
Please tell us about TopDesk Coworking.
TopDesk has been an amazing project, it was born form a need to find an office space that was inspiring and functional. We found this amazing space that was former Marc Cuban’s Broadcast.com that he then sold to Yahoo and they were here for many many years until they moved to California. It has the vibe of all these successful businesses, plus the concrete floors, brick walls and just a great look.
TopDesk is a premium yet affordable coworking facility but it is also a great community of Professionals. Some of the things that sets us apart is that we truly create a tailored office for our clients, you don’t just get a cookie cutter membership, we have a member that manufactures car seats and baby products and we have a workshop he can use; another member is a successful Designer and needed extra storage, etc. We like to be more of a boutique coworking space where our members feel good, and our goal is to help them do what they do best and be successful.
Another thing I love and sets us apart is our partnership with an in-house data center an IT service that is top notch. We are always thinking outside the box and creating value for our members.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Both my mom and dad where in the military, my grandfather was a general as well, there were lots and lots of rules in our home, me and my brothers got in trouble a lot! But I also learned discipline and the value of hard work. My grandfather was very strict and a really tough guy but we had a great relationship, some of my best memories is sitting with him and just listening to his stories.
