Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Blood.
Hi Robin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with starting B.Blumen Flower Farm began in 2020. I was working as the Director of Sales for an online retail gym equipment company at 22 years old but even with a dream salary and travel opportunities at the time, I always had the ambition to start my own business from the ground up. I am in love with every part of the process of entrepreneurship, so at the risk of losing, and against the advice of most of the people in my life, I decided to resign my position and enter the world of self employment.
I wanted a business that challenged me physically as well as mentally, so I landed on flower farming. In my childhood, I spent countless hours in my family gardens with my mother, learning all about the passion, care, and patience it takes to grow something meaningful. We gardened everything from fruits and vegetables that my mother used to feed our family, to small patches of flowers that she would take to friends on special occasions or to some of her patients that she cared for in her various nursing jobs. Its safe to say, at an early age, I learned the impact of growing something by hand and the effect it had on people’s life. Gardening was always work, and something inevitably would go wrong, but for every citrus tree we had to painstakingly wheel into the garage every winter, there was someone’s smile we would get when they received something hand grown that intractably hooked me for life.
My husband and I own 11 acres of land in Godley, TX and, in the true spirit of an aspiring farmer, absolutely none of it was in shape to grow anything. Our land is a true hard scrabble pack of limestone and sand. I sent off for our first soil test and the A&M Ag Department sent the results back with a sticky note that read “Is this the surface of the moon?” All jokes aside, there was more work to be done to get the property in shape for farming than seemed possible. I had already resigned from my position and took up a part time job at a local nursery to learn the basics of selling in the plant industry. I spent all of my free time reading, learning, and watching every piece of media I could find on growing flowers. I was determined to solve any problem necessary to make this new farm dream happen. I made networks with so many local business owners in that first year that were instrumental in getting the farm jumpstarted. I met neighbors with heavy machinery that I hired to come give our field an initial starting till. I met some local rabbit farmers that I traded landscaping services with in order for the opportunity to clean their barns out for the manure that was needed for the starting organic material. I definitely underestimated how much work it would actually take to get started but it was a blessing in disguise because it was this first year that set the mental toughness it would take to survive in business and grow into what this business is today.
Heading into B.Blumen’s sixth season of business and I cannot comprehend how much of a journey it has been to get here. Over these first few years, B.Blumen has evolved from a truly small, local business that did farmers market pop ups and sold to local restaurants and neighbors, to now 5 full years later, transforming into a burgeoning luxury wedding floral company led by an incredibly talented group of 10 women that I couldnt be any more proud of calling my team and colleagues. We consistently service weddings throughout the entire DFW region and now, with hundreds of brides under our belt, we are so excited in the direction that B.Blumen is driving towards the future with. The farm is still a massive part of our story and what we do on a daily basis. We have developed a system that allows us to grow specialty, hard to get, stems for our brides that other florists have a tough time getting their hands on. We are obsessed with bringing a fresh Texas blooms to our wedding floral design and we believe that it truly gives the B.Blumen look a distinctively original quality.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were many struggles along the way, and at every stage.
On the farming side, we had to contend with the mercurial ferocity of the North Texas climate. This is a place that you can get a sunburn and hypothermia in the same 24 hour period. My first three seasons of growing, I was never ahead of the weather. I lost so many crops for more different reasons than I can count. Too much heat, surprise freezes, excessive wind, golf ball sized hail, not watering enough, watering too much. Basically, farming is a master class in loss. I’ve learned that taking the weather personally is a one way road to losing your mind. I learned every lesson the hard way and it wasn’t until I decided to take a calm approach to preparing the best I could and accepting the rest that I started seeing real success. Fighting mother nature is not the business anyone wants to be in.
On the business side, there were an equal amount but totally different set of struggles. Generally, when people start with a dream, they spend the majority of their time thinking about their product and their future customers. This is the exciting part of any new business. I didn’t appreciate just how much work it takes to truly run a growing business. I had to quickly learn skills in accounting, marketing, social media, and public speaking. I realized that having a broad skill set as well as the ability to wear many hats at once was one of the most important things I could do, but having to spread myself this thin across so many competencies was extremely taxing. I spent years feeling as if I was kind of bad at every one of these areas of business, but I didn’t give myself enough credit for the learning process. Sticking with the process and putting genuine positive energy into each of these areas has paid massive dividends and now I have team members that have individual talents in these skill areas that are a tremendous benefit to continued growth of the company.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
B.Blumen is quickly becoming a name in the luxury wedding floral industry. We have two primary pillars that set our direction as a company.
1. Superior customer oriented processes
At the heart of our work is a deeply client-centered approach. We believe every bride deserves to feel like our only bride. Our process is intentionally designed to eliminate noise, reduce stress, and create clarity throughout the entire process. We prioritize thoughtful, timely communication and insulate each client with a dedicated team of floral experts who guide the vision from concept to execution with care and precision.
2. We exist where cultivation meets composition.
By designing from what we grow, not with what is only readily available, we create florals that feel intentional, seasonal, and distinctly elevated. The result is work that reads less as traditional wedding floral and more as a considered design statement, shaped by origin, texture, and thoughtful restraint.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there is one thing I hope readers take away from the B.Blumen story, it’s that meaningful work is built slowly and intentionally. Regardless of what you are growing; flowers, business, or otherwise, the foundation matters. Willingness to do the unseen work is what ultimately creates something original and powerful.
