Meet Robin Grannan of Camp Gladiator

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Grannan.

Hi Robin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a franchise owner, NASM certified personal trainer, fitness ambassador, and have been in the fitness industry off and on over the last 16 years. I currently reside in Keller, Texas with my fiance Michael, and our 2 kids Makayla (13) and Trae (10). I grew up playing sports and excelled at soccer in particular. I grew up playing club soccer with top-level teams in the nation, which consumed my whole life. I then went on to receive a full-ride scholarship to a Division 1 school and pursued a degree in health and human performance/kinesiology. Sports and athletics were what I knew I was best at and I knew that’s what my passion was, but I thought I had no real future in it. Upon leaving school and no longer an “athlete,” I worked various jobs from bartending to admin work and was never happy with what I was doing. As an athlete your whole life, when you separate from it, you are lost. Who am I without soccer?! I was meant to train. I knew it, everyone in my life knew it. I got certified through NASM….but now what? I trained clients anywhere I could. In box gyms, I made house calls, met at parks, etc. There weren’t enough hours in the day to train the people I had coming to me asking to be trained. I knew Bootcamp style classes were the move I needed to make.

I was going to start my own Bootcamp and meet in nearby parks. I needed to scope out the competition in the area to see what I was up against. I had heard about Camp Gladiator but had never experienced it. I attended a 5 am class and quickly realized that they had everything I never knew I needed. It gave me all the sports team feels. There was comradery, there was competition, there were high fives, and there were… IPADS to check in!!! I was a D1 athlete and I was partnered with an older woman twice my age, new to working out, and we were able to work together magically in the same workout. It was AWESOME! Like the old saying goes “If you can’t beat em, join em!” I was going to train my own boot camps with Camp Gladiator. It was meant for me. I filled out an application and was contacted to come out the next day to a 5 am class. From there, it was this tornado of “all the things” Camp Gladiator and I was completely all in. Fast forward six years later, I went from launching my very first locations with, at times no one showing up, to becoming a foundational franchise owner/operator running some of the largest workouts in the company and in 2018 winning one of the top awards in the company for my “60 Minutes of Amazing.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been the least smooth road of anything I’ve ever done. It is something I had to build from the ground up, like any entrepreneur. You have the people who don’t see your vision and tell you it will never work. You have your own self-doubt, and at the same time, this deep knowing that this is going to work. I have had locations pull out days before a location launch. I have had paychecks that weren’t worth the paper they were printed on. I have been waking up at 3am 5 days a week for the last 6 years, that’s not an easy task. All of these things made where I am today so much more rewarding in every possible way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Camp Gladiator?
We are more than just an outdoor Bootcamp. We are truly out here in the trenches, changing people’s lives, and in turn, our lives are changed as well. We as trainers, run dynamic, fun, but challenging workouts. We inspire on a daily basis for people to get out and live their best life. We are a community that cares for each other, holds each other accountable, and cheers for each other relentlessly. This has been an interesting year to say the least. However, so much good has come from it. Literally, overnight, we went from an outdoor fitness company training members of our community to a company that has now incorporated an entire virtual platform and training members from around the world. It’s absolutely incredible.

What are your plans for the future?
I absolutely love what I do and see myself for the foreseeable future continuing to train my gladiators in the field like we do every day. I am excited to dig deeper into our virtual platform and look forward to being able to reach more and more people. As trainers, we hope for a world that simply moves more and believe we help move that needle little by little with each person we have the pleasure of training. Continuing to learn and grow as a trainer is the most important thing I believe I can do for those that I train.
