Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Ingle.
It was Bill and Robin’s drive and desire to bring art of all types to Cedar Hill. In 2004, they opened Visual Expressions Gallery where they consulted, repaired, located, framed and did anything concerning art. One question that they really couldn’t help with at that time was “Do you teach?” That motivated them to expand to create a learning center to truly bring art education to their city.
Visual Expressions now has seven classrooms for teaching all levels of drawing, painting, encaustics, mosaics, fused glass, pottery, and mix media, etc. The classes are for anyone age 5 and up. All the classes are taught by professional artists that want to share what has taken them a life time to learn. Through the arts the children’s projects are planned with an age appropriate educational component weather it is learning to read a ruler or the science behind fused glass, etc.
When their projects are completed they leave with a tangible object that continually reinforces what they learned. It is truly rewarding to watch adults and children become engrossed in the enjoyment as they explore different mediums creating their own works of art.
They know that art is a luxury not a staple and not all folks have the financial ability to expose their children to the arts. That is why it was important to them to create a 501c3 non-profit called Art and Beyond, Inc. Their non-profit through grants and donations has given scholarships for classes to hundreds of children who might otherwise not get this important exposure.
Visual Expressions has also worked with ISD’s, home schoolers, and charter schools providing after school programs. The summer Art Camps and Spring Break Camps keep kids learning year-round.
They have also worked on large jobs creating art for the Omni Dallas, Hotel Zaza and Baylor Hospital. Robin and her daughter Jennifer work with designers on framing, paintings, etc. and she continues to do commissions for people all over the country.
The latest is being chosen to do the painting for the Reno Rodeo Poster for 2018. She has shown her work for the last twenty-two years at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and the Houston Livestock Show along with her work at Visual Expressions. But most importantly to her is to continue to share her love of art with the world.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Location is our biggest challenge. We are a hidden gem located in the back of a ranch style shopping center. We have bronze sculptures outside along with other artistic sculptures. Once found folks love the area and take advantage of the photo opts.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Visual Expressions – what should we know?
