Meet Robyn Johnson and Shannon Kovitch of Summit Private School in Wylie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Johnson and Shannon Kovitch.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Robyn and Shannon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started this business 20 years ago this May. My sister and I were both public school teachers before having our own children. Having our own little ones made us want to be with them all the time, but still be able to use our education degrees. In 1997, we were fortunate enough to purchase the school from a youth director at our church. Over the years, we grew from one building to two buildings with 160 children. As we have matured (gotten older – lol), we have decided that what mattered most was being able to enjoy our time at school. We started a new boutique brand this last year, when we were given the opportunity to down size back into one building with half the number of children. We love being able to care for a handful of children which really allows us to focus on each individual child. We treasure being a part of each child’s family and adding them to our own Summit family story!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, our days have been filled with the joys of teaching young children. I think our most challenging time was this last spring, when our business suffered $150K dollars’ worth of damage during the spring hail storm that destroyed the Wylie community. We were only closed for 2 days; however, for months we worked all weekend to make repairs and be ready for Monday morning, and then begin again the next Friday. We made it through with the determination to not disrupt the lives of our kiddos any more than they were already experiencing with their own homes.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with summit private school – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our school is called Summit Private School. We mainly focus on caring for children for working the mom. We are known for being owners that are involved in the day to day running of our school. We are present every day to help make the school run smoothly. We are involved in every aspect of the school from planning and preparing curriculum to cooking lunch and mowing the grass. We are most proud of the fact that the last 20 years have overwhelmingly been filled with great memories. We have a full circle of families that attend Summit. We have costumers that went to our school as children and now have their own children attending-wow that really shows how old we are!!

My daughter, Melina, has grown up at Summit, for the past 8 years. We absolutely LOVE Summit, Shannon and Robyn, and a special love for Miss Bee! They are so involved in each child and their lives and are like part of the family. I don’t know what we’d do without them. I’m trying to talk them into letting her stay until she’s 18. Lol! Wonderful school! Couldn’t recommend a better school!!!!

I’ve known Robin and Shannon since they opened Summit Private School, my older children were some of the first kids at Summit and they were lucky enough to have Ms Bee as well. From the beginning these ladies have cared for and loved not only my children but all the ones that walked through their doors. Fast forward to the present, I now also have an 8 year old son and I couldn’t or wouldn’t have him anywhere else. I know that without a doubt that he is taken care of as part of the family, and Robin, Shannon and their families as well as Miss Bee are a part of MINE!
We LOVE them and they all put their hearts into Summit Private School!

This is more than a school–it is like “a home away from home”! Every child is given individual support and love–a happy family environment every day.
