Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnika Williams.
Ronnika, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I practiced law for years here in the metroplex before going to work for a large bank. I have worked as a corporate officer at the bank for nearly eight years. Some years back I realized I was happy with the trajectory of my corporate career, but I still felt unfulfilled and wanted something more. I have always loved makeup and been enthusiastic about it. I had even did a few friend’s wedding makeups in the past. One day I came home from work and asked myself if I was going in the right direction with my life. I actually like my career but I needed something that would help me create so that I felt like I was being my complete self, and using all the gifts God has blessed me with.
I asked myself an old cliché question ‘what else would I do if I could do it, and not get paid for it?’ The answer was makeup artistry. So, I took a little vacation time off work and enrolled in an academy so that I could learn the ins and outs of being in the makeup biz. Everything from color theory, different face shapes and skin types, sanitation and the business side of makeup. I started impeccable faces in 2014 as a side business, its one of the best experiences I have ever had and I am glad I stepped out on faith to do it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like all businesses, it has ebbed and flowed. There have been slow times and times where I was undercut by other makeup artists (price-wise) but ultimately it has worked out. I have gotten to the point where there are a nice balance and flow of clients. I am able to balance scheduling easily with my corporate career. I know my worth and value as a makeup artist, and I work smarter, not harder.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Impeccable Faces Makeup Artistry story. Tell us more about your work.
Impeccable Faces Makeup Artistry, LLC has a focus on service and making women look flawless but not overdone. In a world of heavy Instagram makeup, I focus on enhancing natural beauty and highlighting the already gorgeous features on a person’s face. I am a believer in classic beauty, skin should be perfected and look like skin.
I also look at makeup artistry as a sort of ministry. So many women struggle with self-esteem and self-worth, but when I look at any woman’s face I see the beauty in it, and I highlight that in discussion with the client. I often see a lift in their confidence from the experience. It’s my hope that she sees what I see when she leaves my makeup chair.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in ‘luck’. I do have faith and I believe that God has placed certain people in my path (good and bad) and I have learned and grown as a person from those experiences. I also believe He has placed amazing opportunities in my path for makeup and in my corporate career and I am grateful for all those experiences. 2019 was actually a great year for both!
