Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosdevit Villegas.
Hi Rosdevit , so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, my mother made brigadeiro and other desserts with roots in our Latin American heritage. Bits and pieces from Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina coming together to form my childhood. Moving from Florida to the Dallas area we realized there weren’t a lot of South American or Caribbean cuisine and culture as we were accustomed to in Miami. We figured that not many people know much about Latin Cuisine other than Mexican and Central American. For that reason, we started Cioccolato Bakery, to spread the love of desserts from all over Latin America.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes! We started small, making batches of brigadeiro for birthday parties or events we held with our family. Friends and neighbors were left in awe of these little balls of condensed milk and chocolate. They never had much less heard of, a brigadeiro. We started experimenting with flavors and developed a few that are enjoyable for any occasion. We have been invited to many markets and events around Dallas, so hopefully, you can try some for yourself!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I work with my son, Andres. He does the marketing and social media for us. We specialize in brigadeiro and other Latin American desserts. We work together to experiment on different flavors and perfecting our product. We are proud to say that all of our brigadeiro are gluten-free, with some exceptions of course. We also have vegan flavors we have been experimenting with and are proud to begin offering them at our markets. What sets us apart from the rest is simply the product we provide. We combine years of experience making brigadeiro with only the best ingredients to bring a satisfying dessert experience.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Instagram has been incredible for getting the word out about us in the Dallas area. We have also been experimenting with TikTok for recipes our audience can make for themselves.
