Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Pridgen.
Hi Rose, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Twenty eight. That’s where this story begins.
In my short twenty eight years I have moved just that many times. By the hands of my parents and their marriages my brother and I found ourselves following our parents throughout Buffalo, NY growing up.
Out of self-protection – the need to control – my respective bedrooms became my safe haven.
White hangers. No dust bunnies. Perfectly made bed. Color coordinated closet.
A beast was created. In all of my moves I found I had an eye for the essentials. I never traveled with more than I needed. Purging was also a therapeutic way for me to get ready for the next nomadic adventure.
All this to say that Rooms by Rose, my professional organizing business, came from a place in my childhood. Organizing and optimizing spaces is in my blood.
Now with two children and a wonky schedule convenience and accessibility became a priority and way of life for our family.
We just made it beautiful. Aesthetically pleasing – and into a business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Rooms by Rose slowly began a year ago in a friend’s bathroom. A former Neiman Marcus makeup artist needed help organizing her countless beauty items. (So, so fun!)
Day 1 I found that I must ask more questions at the initial consultation such as “should I register my vehicle?” I am hoping this helps you and your home business because my tow bill was not cute!
Truthfully, I did not know what to anticipate with Rooms by Rose. I am very detailed oriented, as you can imagine, but the big picture items can slip my mind.
I also know that it will be the greatest favor I can do for myself is to ask for help during large projects.
The greatest obstacle that I faced was keeping this business close to the chest. Being a loud and proud NY’er it is not like me to withhold information from my family. I knew that if I shared too much their questions could take my business venture and turn it into a lukewarm side hustle within minutes.
I was unemployed (between careers) and finding that out of all the jobs in DFW no one could truly provide the salary, schedule, and location that I am needing.
The tension is a constant challenge – career or entrepreneurship?
If it was an easy decision everyone would do it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Rooms by Rose is a woman-owned business focused on organizing home + office spaces.
I am your gal if you find yourself constantly on a search and rescue mission in your space. Your space should allow you freedom to express yourself while providing a quick glimpse into what you already own.
I am most proud of the collaboration process.
Your space.
My help.
The client calls on me to help organize and optimize however my hands can only do so much work. The client’s vision, boundaries, and needs communicate more than before pictures.
Rooms by Rose is in a unique stage right now. Our systems are a bit more flexible while we learn different styles and budgets – with that our communication does not fall short. I wear a lot of hats – friend, cheerleader, coach, shoulder, and employee.
The Home Organization business can be sensitive and uncomfortable for some clients. Comfort, communication, and collaboration honors our clients best.
What makes you happy?
Time flies by and shows down, at the exact same time, when I am at the pool swimming with my kids.
Ev, 5, and Elliot, 1, are arguably the mayor’s of our apartment pool.
Boogers hanging.
Babies squealing.
Waves crashing.
Sun beaming.
It’s a beautiful, sunburnt madness.
