Meet Rosemary Adesina, Freelance Model in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosemary Adesina.

Rosemary, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
What got me into modeling? Well, honestly it was something that I always wanted to try out since high school. At the time, I lacked a lot of self-esteem since I was always made fun or had it pointed out that I was dark skinned, my hair was think and coily, super skinny, etc. I wanted so badly to just feel accepted not only with others but myself. Modeling came along where I could prove I’m more than how I was being leaned and perceived. I remember struggling so much with self-acceptance and love that I considered bleaching my skin. It wasn’t until I came across a woman’s YouTube story going through the same struggle even if she only did it for a short while and made little difference with her skin tone regretted it completely. She learned to love and accept herself as is. This was incredibly inspiring to me.

Of course, my parents wanted me to focus on school so despite some lucky callbacks from a few agencies I placed it on the back burner. It wasn’t until college, I decided to try again after some encouragement from some dear friends. I made so many excuses on why I should never model. I’m short over being 5′ 7″ and up, now curvy over being skinny, dark-skinned over being fair or light, etc. Despite all of this, I was pushed to go for it which I did. I started putting in the work and after my first photoshoot with a friend, I soon attended a networking event where I was given great insight.

Soon after, I had another photo shoot and then another and another. It’s still surprising to me how such talented and creative photographers would see potential in me or like my look were willing to work with me. There’s a great art to modeling and you get to meet so many awesome people. However, I feel the best part a lot of models forget to mention is through this journey you truly learn to love yourself. This is so critical being a model because this is expressed through the camera. If you’re not confident with your look, poses, body, etc. whatever it is it’s definitely going to show. You have to feel that and channel it. That’s definitely the best part-growing in your art, self-love, passion, and confidence.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Modeling definitely has its struggles to face like anything else in life. Personally, I’d say the biggest, of course, was learning how to be more confident with myself. I can’t underestimate how important this is. Another struggle for me is I also underestimated what modeling really took. When someone says, “This is something you have to invest in,” or ask “What can you bring to the table?”, this is crucial and the key to growing in your craft honestly. Modeling is definitely more than meets the eye.

Please tell us about Rosemary Adesina- Freelance Model.
What I love about my work is that there’s something made about it to catch your attention. This was one of my main goals because I wanted to avoid having photos already seen a thousand times before. I believe with this industry and in general, individuality is necessary.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s a hard one! Well, I can say I loved when I would come home and with family, I would sometimes watch the Tyra Banks show. As we all are, I’m a huge fan! I’d also binge watch America’s Next Top Model from time to time. It’s insane watching the growth of each contestant throughout the show especially when a lot of them usually haven’t done any modeling beforehand. Plus, the show always made sure to have its diversity and not just anyone would be a contestant. Each one was an inspiration with their stories and held a special uniqueness about them. I think we can all agree with Tyra herself is a pretty fun and amazing character to view too!
