Meet Royalyn Reid of Consumer and Market Insights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Royalyn Reid.

Royalyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I never planned on creating my own business. It was after my transition out of the workforce to start a family that I decided to continue working as a consultant in market research, training, and consumer insights. As time passed, I began to experience much success as a consultant. That success pushed my husband and myself to grow my consultant role into a business.

We made our first contract with DFW Airport, a premier client of ours still to this day. Since that first contract, we have had the privilege to work with US State Departments, Nokia, Dallas Love Field Airport, Texas Toll Road Authority, Fort Worth Transit Authority, and many more. For every company that we work with, we seek to be subject matter experts, which is how we have continued growing our client contacts.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would say no, but if we all look back, everything worthwhile in life involves growth and overcoming a challenge to get to where we desire to be. For many entrepreneurs, it’s very common for them to know their craft, skill, or passion. The real struggle comes from not knowing how to run a business.

I discovered my passion for market research, consumer insights, training, and project management through my B.A. in Psychology, M.A. in Human Development, and work experience conducting consumer testing at Mary Kay Cosmetics; however, I didn’t possess the business knowledge and skills needed to start a business.

From this point, I knew what I needed to do—I took the initiative to invest in myself. I signed up to take executive level business courses taught by highly recognizable educational institutions: Dartmouth College, Northwestern University, Harvard University, Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business, and Wells Fargo Executive Education Program (in partnership with WBENC). These courses along with the great mentorship I received from small businesses, minority, and women organizations provided me with the confidence and skills needed to start Consumer & Market Insights.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
