Meet Ryan Harrington of Paneless Home Services in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Harrington.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent the majority of my youth at Cal Farley’s boy’s ranch. We grew our own food, cooked, cleaned and worked in addition to school. I attribute my work ethic to the lessons I learned there. After moving back to Dallas, I briefly worked for a couple of companies and while my attention to detail and OCD were used to organize, I never felt the satisfaction of being able to maintain it or expand it. I felt the nudge to find a niche that was well suited for working with my hands and meeting people. My mom actually said, “why don’t you go clean some windows.” As random as it was, I wasn’t afraid to talk to people or to learn a new trade. It quickly became my desire to be the best and fastest at it. Starting my own business was tough. I sold my beloved 240Z to help cover business expenses and advertising. With a whole lot of determination, I slowly built a loyal clientele. After five years on my own, I hired my very first employee. In that time, I married my wife now of fourteen years and convinced her to leave her job. She worked to bring me into the current century making use of computer softwares. Then, well God happened. We were surrounded by pastors as friends, colleagues, and at our church. We were approached by a pastor selling his business known as Distinctive windows. The remarkable thing about that transaction is we never even met the seller until we flew up for his son’s wedding and were down to the last payments. We had purchased the residential side of his business and he had sold the commercial to a company called Quality Glass. They soon were looking for a new avenue and we acquired an office and additional employees through that transaction in 2006. In 2008, we took our last and final jab at buying others out. All I can say is this, “God brought us to it and He also brought us through it.” Today we have seven trucks, thirteen employees including ourselves, and our list of services has greatly expanded.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle has always been finding and hiring the right people. My name is on the line, and I want every job done as if I were there myself. Finding hard workers with an attention to detail, great customer service, and not afraid of ladders is quite the task. I consider myself “always hiring.” If you know of someone send them my way. I’ll train someone with the right attitude and work ethic any day of the week.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Paneless Home Services story. Tell us more about the business.
The business started out just focusing on window cleaning and naturally expanded into gutter cleaning and power washing. We also clean chandeliers, porch lamps, and mirrors. In 2008, out of personal need for great carpet cleaning I started researching to bring our pure water technology to floor services. Carpet and tile and grout cleaning were the focus but hardwood and marble polishing were added within the year.

As a company, I’m most proud of our professionalism. Our crews are background checked and screened. We look for friendly, customer service oriented individuals who wear uniforms and have decaled vehicles. We carry general liability, workers comp, bonding, and auto insurance. The biggest thing that sets us apart from others is not hiring sub-contractors, continuous training, and myself and my wife staying hands on to ensure we are doing the best we can each and every day. We are family owned but have all the important benefits of running as a corporation. And this is the kicker ya’ll, we still answer our phones!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t feel that luck has anything at all to do with it. Any success we have achieved is a blessing from The Lord. He gifted us with abilities and desires and He has done great things in our lives. I can tell you stories where my wife prayed for a certain amount and the exact amount plus some change arrived in the mailbox. I can tell you how He weaved people in our lives long before we knew how they would be used to fulfill His plan later with business transactions. I can tell you how when we are tired or discouraged He renews our strength. I can tell you that He has given us a passion to serve and most phone calls we take feel more like taking care of a friend and playing catch up on their lives than it does scheduling a service.
