Meet Ryan Kearns of Auto Dent Company in Haltom City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Kearns.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I watched my father run one of the most successful courier companies in the Midwest growing up. He learned how to run a business from his father.

When I was 21, I opened my first business in South Florida. It was a direct sales and marketing company and our client was ATT. Our responsibility was to help unravel their new U-Verse campaign through direct sales.

I started Auto Dent Company in 2015 in Houston, TX and have since relocated to DFW and also opened a location in Kansas City. We used the same direct sales model from my first company and applied it to the hail industry. I also took a lot of what I learned from ATT as far as customer management and customer service and applied that to my business as well.

Everyone will tell you that hard work is the key to their success, and I agree. Another reason I’ve been able to reach some level of success is working smart. I personally don’t enjoy working 16 hour days so I’ve become better and better at working smart; putting deals together, big or small, and also mastering delegation and managing others.

I’ve also been great about keeping in touch with the mentors who have helped get me this far, Even as far back as my favorite grade school sports coaches. The best pieces of advice they’ve given me are what books to read. My favorite is How to Win Friends and Influence People!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! If it were smooth, I’m not confident it would feel so good when you end up doing well. I am not complaining by any means but long hours, lots of ups and downs, especially in the auto industry. So many things can go wrong and a lot of times someone’s car is their largest or second largest investment they’ll make in their lives. It’s paramount to us to focus on customer service and making sure everyone is happy, and it’s not always smooth sailing.

The biggest struggle is finding talent and putting a great team together. Successful people will tell you that if you’re the smartest person on your team… You’ve got the wrong team. We are constantly recruiting the best and the brightest and raising our standards.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Auto Dent Company – what should we know?
Auto Dent Company specializes in Auto Hail Repair. We use a technique that is the most common in the auto storm restoration industry; Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). Essentially what our dent technicians do is take the car apart and use specialized metal and rubber tools to massage and push the dents out from the underside and inside the car so no marks are left on the outside of the car. It restores the car back to “pre-loss” or “pre-hail” condition because we avoid having to paint and use after-market parts as much as possible.

I would say we are mostly proud of how we treat our customers. I think a lot of times in the auto industry, people feel like they’re getting ripped off or something else is wrong with their car. Even if they just dropped it off somewhere for an oil change and a checkup. We try our best to update and educate the customer so they know how their vehicle is being fixed and keep them in the loop about repair times and expectations.

I think, again, what’s going to set us apart is going to be communication with the customer. Soon we will have automated updates via texts or emails so customers always know exactly where their car is in the repair process. The updates will also come with a link to a profile for the person working on their car so they can put a face with a name 🙂

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity. Get rich quick schemes and cheating the system only work for so long. To build anything for the long-run, you need to have a high level of integrity. My motto at my shops are to be “upfront and honest” with customers. People appreciate honesty, even if the truth stings for a little bit of time.

I am very proud of you Ryan. You have come a long way since seeing you and your siblings playing in the front yard. Your parents did instill a great sense of integrity and honesty in you and now you are reaping the rewards of hard work and dedication to your business ventures. Good Luck in the future.
