Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan and April Wetzel.
Ryan and April, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m the son of founder Phil Wetzel, Designer and owner of Design Masters Landscaping. I am a second-generation landscape designer who developed a passion for the art of design through the eyes and mind of my father. The Wetzels Design features design and installation of exterior living spaces. Our story starts when I met my beautiful wife in a design meeting. April was working on an interior design project on a beautiful modern style home in North Dallas and contacted me via a referral she had. I responded to her call and decided to set a meeting unknowing how or what this meeting was going to be about? As we met onsite, we visited on the overall vision from the interior finish outs to the exterior spaces and how we could tie these elements together. Several weeks later and multiple conversations through the design process April and I became close. We quickly realized our love and passion for design was something we needed to do together. We begin hitting it off very well which lead us to ultimately falling in love and getting married. Now, we have a beautiful family and plan on sharing our passion for design and hope to one day pass along to our children.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road, I’d be lying if I said it has. As an artist, it’s very hard to make it “big time” and struggling is certainly a part of the journey. However, our journey has been extremely successful in the sense of two people meeting, falling in love and raising a family through the art of design. We have been very fortunate to have worked with some amazing people and do wonderful projects all around Dallas. These opportunities have to lead us to a place of happiness and success and we strive to keep the journey going.

Our business is a landscape design and installation company. We’ve become known for creating beautiful living spaces turning our clients dreams into reality in both interior, exterior landscapes and outdoor living. We are most proud of being able to learn from each project as they’re all unique in their own way. Every customer has their quirks which allows us to work with them individually and create our vision that works for them. I feel that our designs being hand-drawn, and illustrated from a blank piece of paper creating a work of art sets us apart from most.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Getting to know our clients, who they are and understanding who we are as designers, individuals has allowed us to reach a level of success. Success to us is when we’ve been able to take an impossible vision and turn it into a work of art. Successes come in many forms, something that has come along way with our journey. When we see the joy and happiness of our work bringing families and people together, this truly sums up our definition of success.
