Today we’d like to introduce you to S.A. McClellon.
Hi S.A., it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is S.A. McClellon and I’m a 23-year-old senior in college. I’m double majoring in English (Creative Writing) and Media Arts and I’m set to graduate in Spring 2023. After graduation, my current plan is to teach high school English while continuing to work on my manuscripts for upcoming books and screenplays.
I have been writing from a very young age, likely since I was 9 years old. I remember when my late grandmother and I would visit Barnes and Noble and she would buy notebooks that I would write all of my stories in. It wasn’t until I got my first laptop for my 13th birthday when I was able to bring all of my ideas to fruition.
I started writing ‘Fool’s Gold’ when I was 15 years old. At the time, the story was heavily inspired by the period dramas I was obsessed with at the time. 6 years and several drafts later, Fool’s Gold was published on Amazon on March 21, 2021. My grandmother was my biggest cheerleader and always encouraged me to write and publish. Unfortunately, she passed away only a month before she could see it published. However, I carried on her legacy by dedicating my first published work to her.
It has been one year and 9 months since ‘Fool’s Gold’ was published on Amazon, and I have decided it needs a sequel. On December 25, 2022, ‘Fool’s Fortune’ will be available on Amazon via Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and paperback!
I’ve come a long way in my writing journey, from writing and publishing to holding book signings in and out of Texas and even having the privilege of encouraging young minds to do the same. I am very excited for the other projects I have planned, and I look forward to what the future has in store for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was not always smooth. My grandmother passing away just one month before my book’s release hit me very hard. However, I was able to pick myself back up again and go through with what I had set out to do. Writing a book while also being a full-time student and working a part-time job has also been difficult. But reminding myself that it’s only temporary is what keeps me going. I know one day I’ll be able to reach my dream of being a full-time author and screenwriter.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently an independent author with one book published in March 21, 2021, and the sequel set to release on December 25, 2022. I am also a full-time student and I work part-time as a waiter. I have had quite a bit on my plate over these last couple of years, but I am proud of the steps I’m taking to reach my goal of being able to write and publish full-time. I want to create stories that stand out from the rest and reach people who desire those types of stories. Storytelling is something I have always enjoyed. My mind is constantly running 24/7 and I want to be able to share my ideas with the rest of the world.
What do you think about luck?
I feel very lucky to have built a small community of people who enjoy my work and encourage me to keep doing what I’m doing. I am also very lucky that Voyage Dallas found me online and reached out and I cannot thank them enough for this opportunity!
