Today we’d like to introduce you to S. Mark McKenna MD MBA.
S. Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Sure – Most importantly, I am a father, husband, medical doctor and entrepreneur. My last medical practice was acquired by Life Time Fitness, Inc. in November of 2014. At the time, Life Time was publicly traded on the NYSE. After the acquisition, I remained partnered with Life Time for approximately one and a half years and was ultimately asked to become their National Medical Director.
In July 2016, I left Life Time to start my family and began formulating the plan for OVME. I worked on the project for over one year before my team and I launched the first OVME studio in Atlanta, GA in March of 2018. Buoyed by our success in Atlanta, we subsequently have launched Nashville, TN, Dallas, TX, East Cobb, GA and Charlotte, NC. Our sixth studio is opening this June in Chicago (Lincoln Park), IL and we will open two more studios (#7 and #8) in yet to be announced locations by year’s end.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? Lol, no. I believe most successful people are persistent and I am no exception. I’ve certainly enjoyed my fair share of failures, however most notably was during Hurricane Katrina. I was living in New Orleans, LA when the storm hit and my businesses were destroyed overnight. It was that experience, a natural disaster that led me Atlanta, where I ultimately met my wife – so there was definitely a silver lining in that cloud.
