Meet Sabrina Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Jackson.

Sabrina (Sab) Jackson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Real Estate Investing was never on my radar because I always assumed real estate was only the buying and selling of homes, and that was it. I thought real estate investing was a place where I needed buckets of money to even place a toe into the space. And prior to this, like some people, I thought life for me was going to a job where I exchanged time for money, getting a paycheck from the W2 job. Having the job determine my monetary value when I did well, or its yearly salary increases – do great at exchanging time for money and then getting more money. And then continuing on that path to work until I can hopefully retire. (I was never content, I was comfortable) – there is no growth in being comfortable.

My background started working for non-profit community relations and digital marketing – coupled with 15+ years of being a public servant in leadership roles for organizations such as the National Urban League Young Professionals of Milwaukee, Charlotte, and finally, Dallas. I’ve also served with the Junior League of Dallas… and still, real estate (investing) was not in my sights.

My interest peaked when I saw an ad on Facebook from a real estate community for women, and it tapped into my desire to be Without Fear of My Future. I want that; I want the ability to have some control over my financial future. I have a 401K, an IRA, and Stocks, which are unpredictable, and I don’t have a pension – all the things society tells us that we should have.

However, during Covid-19, I had time… like many of us, I had time to learn more about what my financial future could look like if I didn’t know what actions to take towards them, and my eyes were opened so much more. I would wake up every day literally thinking about my financial future and what am I planning to do about it?! Social security is projected to be insolvent, and while that isn’t my dependency aspiration, knowing that I, alone, will be responsible for my financial comfort. I didn’t feel I was on a comfortable track toward my retirement. I also read Rich Dad’s CashFlow Quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki. And I also once heard someone once say, “The longer you wait for the future you want… the less time you have to spend in it” Why is retirement the ONE GOAL? What are you going to do about it, Sab? And for the woman I am, a man is not a financial plan. Real Estate Investing lit something in Sab Jackson, and it also placed kerosene on my growth mindset – my love of learning specialized knowledge that can help me generate income and contribute to making an impact in the community I live, work, and serve is my driver.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road in real estate investing, and I would not want it to be! Real Estate Investing for Sab Jackson has been an emotional roller coaster; it’s been stressful, anxiety-filled, and financially precarious! But the gag is – I take pleasure in it! It’s not a passion; it’s a means. It’s a path to help me fund my passions. It may become a passion later; however, now, I relish this journey. There are so many benefits from being in this space; I never imagined how much value real estate investing could provide me – yes, of course, I want to make a profit, and yes, I want to build wealth. I never know what is going to happen in a real estate effort. I have been thrust towards the idea of, Do It, Before You Know Every Single Step!! And I want to do it!! I am pouring myself into my business daily (because it’s my business) – it’s my legacy that I’m building. And I appreciate how uncomfortable I get in this growth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently work at a healthcare staffing company in its client marketing division – where I work on the brand management marketing team for our internal business partners. We help our business partners to generate demand and drive revenue growth. We’re executing new demand generation and retention strategies through innovative marketing. I want to generate and drive revenue for MY business. I’m most known for my charismatic personality amongst the team – they know I will burst into a happy dance on a virtual Microsoft Teams Meeting – for no reason. On-site, if we’re eating together – I’ll do the — this food is good dance in my seat. It brings me joy, and it also brings a smile to faces. But it’s mainly for my happiness.

I am proud to work for a company that walks everything it talks about with its company culture. It starts from the top down! But also outwardly, with the healthcare clinicians it serves – they genuinely care about our healthcare heroes. We celebrate them at every opportunity because they pave the way for a brighter and healthier future, and I’m proud of that as well.

I am also a co-host of a Facebook show called #BrownVersations for 5+ years now – it is work where we get paid as a talent. The show is an interactive social discussion on the latest topics and trends happening in the brown girl community and abroad. It feeds my soul; I love the community we’ve cultivated — we make an impact nationally and globally with our content! I love it!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Dallas is the unending entertainment and social scene opportunities. I also love the job and business growth opportunities available. I came to Dallas for a better job opportunity from Charlotte, North Carolina by way of Milwaukee, Wisconsin – my hometown. And I received just that, a better opportunity in this Metropolitan.

What I like least… are the hailstorms and the tornadoes. Wisconsin only got snow, and North Carolina only got a lot of rain during hurricane season.

You thought I was going to say traffic, huh?!?
