Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahara Ale.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sahara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Nepal and I moved to America when I was 15yrs old. I knew I was always interested in performing or anything artistic or creative in nature. I had numerous interests from theatre, dance, music and much more. It was when I went to university, I decided to focus on one path which was acting.
I went into the corporate world after I graduated and realized I was not happy doing something I don’t love. I decided then that I would pursue the acting field as a career. Its been my way of showing the world that the other person is you if you were in similar circumstances. I believe it is a great way to teach people to practice empathy and love towards one another.
During this time, one of my friends had gotten a camera and needed someone to get in the frame of it for practice. I really enjoy it and as I did more shoots, I got interested in concept building and creative directing. Since, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with talented creatives to put together concept shoots.
With that brief intro, I know I am simply starting to scratch the surface of everything I am learning throughout the journey. Social service has also been a strong foundation of who I am and I try to incorporate that into everything I do. I am really grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me so far and I look forward to bringing more awareness and understanding with everything I do.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hardships have taught me about myself along the way. As a perfectionist and someone who wants to make everyone happy, I have had to learn that it is important to know who you are and when to put my foot down.
I have missed out on plenty of opportunities by abiding by my virtues. It is difficult to stay true to yourself in an industry that keeps trying to mold you. I have to practice constantly reminding myself of where I come from, my background and my culture. Now, I welcome challenges and look at it as an opportunity towards growth.
Please tell us about the business.- What should we know?
I am an actress. I model from time to time. I love fashion and enjoy styling. I bring my ideas together by executing as a creative director.
I am proud that I encourage the process of collaboration and believe that best of ideas sprout by putting creative minds together and finally are executed well. Whether it is acting, modeling, fashion, creative directing…. In any industry, it takes a group of individuals working towards a goal to make ideas materialize.
When individuals with different backgrounds and perspectives come together to share, disagree and work towards a common goal, truly some magic can happen.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of the dearest moments I cherish is being back in Nepal when it used to rain and all the kids from the neighborhood would come together and gleefully dance in the rain.
Also, when we did not have electricity for 18 hours a day and the lights would come on; each household would, for some reason, get pots or pans and bang on them to celebrate as a community. You’d hear the clanging of metal and know the electricity was back on. It is the smallest moments as such that make me glance back at my childhood and make me smile and think about how grateful I am now.
