Today we’d like to introduce you to Sai Yadav.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sai. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It was the summer of 2018, and I was about to start high school. I don’t know how, but I became really interested in editing pictures and changing backgrounds, such things like that. At the time, I only had my iPhone X, so most of my photos came out horrible. I had no idea what composition and lighting was, and that adding random stickers to pictures did not make them better. After months of only using my phone, and another few months of endless begging, I was able to convince my dad to buy me a DSLR.
Following that I started taking pictures at every opportunity I got. If I was just going on a walk with a few friends or attending a party, my camera came with me! Looking back, I must have looked crazy, taking a thousand pictures of grass blades or the same flower. Slowly I learned that what attracted me the most was working with people. Dragging any person I could to the park or the mall, I started my portrait photography journey. Spending endless time on the internet, I taught myself the basics of photography and editing. After that, more people started reaching out to me to just fix their photos or go out and have a photoshoot. I would say 14-year-old Sai with her iPhone X would be proud of how much better I have gotten.
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first started off, it was a bit challenging to get opportunities for photoshoots. Whether it was a problem with timing, location, or just an overall busy schedule, I wasn’t getting enough chances to go out and explore. I decided that the only way I was going to get more photos was by taking my camera everywhere with me! Through doing that, I started getting more experience with working with others and started building more connections.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in portrait and event photography. I realized that this was what I wanted to do because working with other people just seemed more exciting than taking pictures of objects. You build connections and relationships with the people you take photos of, and it is even more exciting when you get to give the pictures back to them and see their reactions. What sets me apart is that given my age, I believe that I am able to connect more to the younger generation and provide photos that tell their story better.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Given the covid-19 situation, events and reasons for photoshoots has declined and nearly come to a pause. I believe that when things do go back to normal, the industry will do much better.
