Meet Tony Saladino of Saladino Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Saladino.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have a degree in Marketing and had had a career in retailing until a friend gave me a set of paints. I had been unhappy in that career and knew that there must be something else that I would be able to do that would be more gratifying. Painting proved to be just that.

I gradually began to change all of my efforts toward the goal of being able to paint full time. In just a few years I was able to do that and I had found the thing in life about which I am passionate and that makes me want to enthusiastically go to my studio every morning to create work that is stimulating.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggle was to accept that I am unique and that what I do is valid and enough. For too long I didn’t let myself just do what comes naturally and to accept that that is enough and that no one else can do what I can. That is freeing and it’s also scary because I am responsible for whatever I do.

Please tell us about Saladino Studio.
I work for my studio which is apart from where I live. I go there every day and do something that contributes to the goal of making art that will make others want to look and ponder “What is this, and what is he trying to say?”

The work is not always painting. Much time is spent corresponding with the galleries that represent me and accounting for each piece of art – tracking it from delivery to sale.

My thrust now is large abstract work that often tries to make connections between things we see in everyday life and constructs like music and how there are similarities in these.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Family dinners, my first bike, learning to fish.
