Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Ross.
As early as first grade, left-handed Ross would often draw after finishing his assignments. It was during his pre-teenage years that he would begin cultivating his gift of graphic design. In his spare time at home as a child, Ross would spend hours on the family’s Gateway Essential PC creating mock album art and magazine covers. When Ross’ mother took notice of his gift, she had him design programs for his home church. Ross provided designs for his home church until he went away to attend college at Southern University and A&M College in the fall of 2008.
It was during his collegiate tenure, in 2010, that Ross would decide to begin designing professionally. Little did he know, what started as him designing a few graduation invitations for friends would flourish into designing for hundreds of graduates over the course of time and a self-sustaining business. Today, Ross has amassed a national clientele roster with clients from coast to coast.
In April of 2019, Ross was awarded “Outstanding PR Alumni” by the Southern University and A&M College Department of Mass Communication for outstanding alumni achievement in Public Relations. In July of 2019, Ross was announced as one of the Southern University Alumni Federation’s Top 40 Under 40.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my experience thus far, I have found that learning to be resilient is incredibly important. Things will come up. Life will happen. However, we have to remember it is not so much what happens, but how we respond that matters most.
Obstacles will come up. Trials will arise. “No’s” will occur. Pain will happen. But, again, you have to learn how to shake back at all costs! Learn that you are the only one that can stop you. Period.
Please tell us more about your work.
The mission of my company is “to produce effective graphic design and branding that presents you professionally, creatively, and in excellence, while making your vision the world’s reality.”
What sets my company apart from others is the experience customers get. In any business or professional arena, there will always be plenty of other amazing professionals that do what you do, but the goal is to create an experience that can’t quite be duplicated and the best way to do this is to simply be yourself. Set the standard and compete with yourself.
Allow the customers to get to know you. Interact with them. Get to know them too. Getting customers is one thing, but retaining them is another. While I love meeting and helping new people, I put a lot of focus on clientele retention.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Oh, my! This is kind of a tough one. But, what I would say one of the fondest memories of my childhood would be spending summers at my Grandma Sallie’s with my younger brother, Josh, and two first cousins, Kayla and Ricardo. Those were some fun times.
