Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Wortley.
Samantha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved a good monogram, and it was something I always said “one day” I would love to get into doing. I still remember when I was working full time and pregnant with my first little girl telling a lady I worked with at Neiman Marcus that I wanted to get a monogram machine. She told me the price of them and I was in a bit of sticker shock! Fast forward two years later when we found out we were pregnant with our second baby, and the thought had started to seriously cross my mind to finally buy a machine. When I found out our second baby was another little girl, I felt like it was a sign that the time was now to take myself up on my own offer! My Aunt in Law is a big monogrammer and she told me the shop here locally she has bought all of her machines. I drove out there on New Year’s Eve and got myself a belated Christmas present in the shape of my first monogramming machine. I loved getting things monogrammed so much for my first, Miller, and I knew I would want to do the same if not more now that I had two cute sisters to dress up! I always said I would love to make it a “small side business,” and with the support of good friends, it has become that here today! I have literally worked in some form or another since I was 15, so when I decide to “retire” from my fashion career after having Miller it was a bit of an adjustment even though staying home with her was 120% was where I felt I was meant to be. Having this as my job now is great as I have the flexibility to work as much as my family schedule allows. I enjoy doing it as it’s something that brings people joy. I love to see how happy people are with their purchases after I’ve added a Sew Stitchin’ Fancy touch!
Has it been a smooth road?
The nice thing about owning my own business is I am in full control of my own schedule. I would say that was the biggest challenge in the past for working for a company. Owning my own “work schedule” is much easier trying to do the work/life balance. I am not one to really turn away a customer though, so I would say that an occasional challenge is the volume of work during busy, peak, holiday times.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sew Stitchin’ Fancy – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is an embroidery business. I specialize in machine embroidery for children’s clothing and items as well as home linens. I do of course embroider other items as they come my way, too! Being a mom of two young girls, I love being super creative with kids clothing. I have always been in fashion and am royally obsessed with children’s clothing as well. I absolutely love getting to add personalized touches to help set outfits apart for my clients. In addition, I have always loved home interiors and entertaining, so I adore getting to help clients gussy up their tables and bars with custom embroidered linens.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how Dallas is a big city with everything you need but if you live centrally, everything you need is essentially a 15 min drive away I love that we have such a large fashion influence here and that it’s so centrally located to so many travel destinations!
