Today we’d like to introduce you to Samiyah Davis.
Samiyah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Samiyah Davis, I am 20 years old, I am a motivational speaker and I am the founder of Confidence Rules Non-Profit organization. I am a graduate of the prestigious Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center’s School of Business and Management, and a current student at the University of Dallas. As a child, I battled heavily with depression, suicidal thoughts, and self-esteem from the time I was 15 to about 17 or 18. I was drowning with no sign of a lifeboat and not many people accepted that, and many people didn’t even notice. When you grow up like me, depression and emotional instability are not seen as real problems. Everyone wants to act like it’s just something you can snap at and it will go away. For as long as I can remember, I was always considered the “advise giver” and strong one of all my friend groups, so I was always helping without being helped. I had a lot of friends and random people that I was able to talk off the ledge. However, there were a lot of times when I didn’t have anyone to talk me off the ledge or anyone to give me advice and show me a better path. My mission is to be that person for people like me, as well as for anyone that needs it. I got to where I am today by choosing positivity over negativity. I refused to stay down after falling. I fell so many times but I ALWAYS got back up. I started using my motivational speaking and all my advice on myself. I started practicing confidence building with myself, and eventually, I was able to bring myself out of a hole. My goal is to continue sharing my story with others and to help others realize just how valuable they are and help them understand that they can be their own hero!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been easy at all. Being a young entrepreneur comes with its struggles already. But when you’re a young, black, female entrepreneur that is trying to change the world and bring more positivity to the youth, it poses a whole different set of struggles. Especially when you’re trying to address issues that society refuses to accept. I am tackling bullying, mental and emotional instability, and depression in our youth. The biggest struggle that I’ve found is that the impact of social media is so massive, yet it is so hard to spread positivity. Another big struggle is that it is hard for children and people that have dealt with these issues to come forward and ask for help. That is why I fight so hard to make sure that people understand that they are enough, that they can and will survive life obstacles, and that it is okay to be down. Also, struggling with my own periods of feeling insecure and unmotivated while being a motivational speaker can be hard, but being open about the fact that I am not perfect is what makes me unique and so different from others.
Please tell us about your organization.
My company is Confidence Rules Non-profit organization. The mission of my company focuses on the prevention and avoidance of exploitation and abuse while building self-esteem and confidence in our youth. We accomplish this mission through speaking engagements, social media, outreaches, workshops, and soon, we will start organizing conferences. We specialize in confidence/self-esteem building and educating society on the harms and effects of bullying, depression, and lack of confidence in the youth. The thing that sets my company apart from others is that we focus on interpersonal communications. Any event we host and anybody we talk to will get the guidance they need as an individual; They will hear real, non-sugarcoated life stories, and we are always open to communicate with ANYONE that needs us. Our company website is designed for people to get advice at any time of day, and we also give them the option to ask for advice anonymously. Another unique thing we offer on our website is the option for people to share their overcomer/survival stories. I pour my heart and soul into my organization because I know when I save one life, I’m actually saving more than just one person. Our organization serves as a virtual safe space. Our sole purpose is to save lives through the building of confidence and the building of awareness and prevention methods to help the youth that are battling depression, suicidal thoughts, bullying, and lack of confidence.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue speaking at schools, conferences, and workshops and just continuing to grow. The plan for my organization is to be able to host a confidence-building conference in Dallas before 2021, and eventually make those conferences a reoccurring event. Confidence Rules is about to blow the world’s mind. We are coming with a positivity so strong that it will be impossible to ignore. We are officially planning for our 1st conference, and we are working on future events for the youth. If you don’t know about Confidence Rules non-profit organization yet, then you better get ready because we are introducing ourselves with an unmatchable force. As far as me as a motivational speaker located right here in Dallas, it won’t be long before the world knows my name. Samiyah Davis is here for the long run, and I am so ready to continue changing and impacting lives.
