Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Woldemariam.
Samsonyte is a 23 year old independent artist. Although he was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, he’s actually a first-generation immigrant of Ethiopian decent. The youngest of 3 siblings; Samsonyte & his family bounced around from different section 8 housing growing up until his hard-working parents were eventually able to buy a home in a suburban north Dallas neighborhood. Here, he attended/graduated from Wylie East high school where he was also able to forge everlasting friendships with fellow artists/creative minds like (LeRoyce & Ayo + more…) They created ‘Elevæted’; a creative collective that now holds a powerful presence in the DFW metropolitan area, releasing high-quality music & hosting various different shows and events. After spending several years perfecting his craft, Samsonyte eventually self-released his debut project titled “The Muse” in 2017 to all major streaming platforms. Since then, he’s been able to generate over a couple millions streams independently, & shared a stage with star-studded artists. (Curren$y, Dizzy Wright, Pouya, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, & more….)
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. My journey to where I currently am has consisted of endless obstacles. The biggest of which, initially, was probably getting my parents on board with my vision. Due to my cultural background & them being African immigrants, they put so much faith in me taking the traditional path to “success” Which in their minds meant going to college, graduating with a degree, & pursuing a career path in either being a doctor, engineer, or lawyer. (any first generation kid can relate, lol) So you could only imagine how they felt when I told them I wasn’t finishing school & was going to be a musician instead.
Please tell us about Samsonyte.
Samsonyte is an artist/music producer known for his songs & freestyles with a unique neo-soul, yet classic feel. His biggest song “Lucy” has over 2 million streams alone. In today’s day and age, where the seemingly everyone wants to be an artist, in the supremely over saturated music industry filled with ‘trendy rappers’, Samsonyte is able to stand out with his conscious flows & lyrics that strike the soul.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had the chance to start it all over, I could honestly say that I wouldn’t really change anything. I am not a man of regrets. The only thing that comes to mind, “I could’ve started earlier”.
