Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Fatzinger, Aaron Richter, Billy Hildreth, and Camillo Grisales.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Samuel, Aaron, Billy, and Camillo. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Bruce Magnus is a band forged from the fires of four men’s hearts. As a band, we have been playing shows for a little over a year, but we have known each other and played music together for much longer. This project started from the ground floor, which is not the case for some other musical ventures. We all needed an outlet for our creativity as each other’s projects/outlets were in various states of in between. Over the course of our first year together we went from having occasional jam sessions in the back bedroom of our drummer’s house to playing 26 shows, releasing an eight track EP, and getting nominated for best new artist by the FW Weekly.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. As anyone who has ever been in a band or known anyone in a band can tell you, scheduling the time to get together is tough. We are all in our 30’s with our own lives and finding the time to get together is critical not only for the band (can’t write songs and prepare for gigs without practice!) but for each other. We are close friends, and being able to have this project together can get stressful when lives get in the way. There are also the pitfalls of living across the metroplex from each other, as well as the late nights of gigging and taking gigs on non-standard (Friday and Saturday) nights.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bruce Magnus – what should we know?
Our band plays rock and roll music blended out of a spectrum of genres. We are known for putting on a high energy fun live show where our stage presence is infectious on our audience. While we have stage swagger, we are also known for our friendly demeanor and courteous, professional engagement (no rock star histrionic attitudes here). While we have tons of fun, we also take our music very seriously and are considered very capable (maybe even impressive?) musicians and songwriters.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important aspect of success for us is remembering that we are trying to have a good time. Yes, we have high aspirations, but we believe that this project is only successful as long as we are enjoying ourselves. We also find success in the quality of our music and performances. Again, we have fun, but we work very hard at polishing our work. This means consistency, practice, and high standards.
