Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Frederick.
Hi Samuel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story really began in 2003 when I started volunteering in the strength and conditioning field. I didn’t have a title or a paycheck—I just knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science, followed by a master’s degree focused on skeletal muscle development and sport management. In 2006, after completing over 2,000 supervised hours and passing a two-day written exam with an oral practicum, I became a nationally certified strength coach.
I spent more than 10 years working at the collegiate level, where I was shaped just as much as the athletes I trained. While the career path looked great on paper, God was clearly orchestrating something bigger. Every step along the way was ordained, and in the fall of 2013, Superior Fitness Consulting was formed—not just as a business, but as a calling. I learned quickly that you can’t run from what God places on your life.
Since then, I’ve never looked back. In December of 2025, I became certified as a mental health coach, further strengthening my belief that true transformation happens when we address both the physical and mental sides of life. When God takes over your life, He provides the tools to succeed—and my amazing wife is a major part of that. She has been integral to the unwavering reputation of Superior Fitness. As a family and marriage therapist, she and I share a deep passion for helping people overcome stumbling blocks, both physically and mentally.
Superior Fitness isn’t just a gym. It’s a place where lives are changed, confidence is rebuilt, and people are equipped to become better every day. We truly care about every individual who walks through our doors, and our mission is simple: to serve, to guide, and to help people move forward stronger in every area of life.
This isn’t just what I do—it’s who I’m called to be. Superior Fitness exists because God placed a mission on our hearts: to help people rise above their struggles, restore what’s been broken, and walk forward stronger in body, mind, and spirit. And as long as He gives us the opportunity, we’ll keep showing up to change lives—one person at a time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been a lot of uncertainty along the way—especially with the economy. When money gets tight, training is one of the first things people cut, so you feel every shift. I’ve had stretches where clients disappeared overnight, overhead stayed the same, and I had to figure it out fast. That part doesn’t get talked about much, but it’s real—and it’s nerve-racking.
Early on, I did everything myself—opening and closing the gym, coaching, cleaning, billing, fixing equipment, all of it. Long days, very little margin for error, and no one to hand things off to. If something went wrong, it was on me. That said, God always provides. He sent one of my best buddies at the exact right time to help stabilize, manage, and grow Superior Fitness into what it is today. We’ve got 22 years of history—going through the program together at Texas Tech, driving to Tennessee to take our certification tests together. Because of that history, I trust his judgment and his approach with every client and member, which took a huge weight off my plate.
Leaving a “stable” career to bet on myself wasn’t easy either. There’s a lot of doubt when you walk away from security to build something of your own, especially when you’ve got a family depending on you. Becoming a father only raised the stakes. You don’t get to be reckless—you have to make it work.
Working with injured athletes raised the bar even more. People trusted me with their health and their careers, so every decision mattered. There were no shortcuts, and there still aren’t.
As the business grew, new challenges came with it—moves, expansion, managing people, and trying to keep the culture and standards high while everything else was changing.
It hasn’t been smooth, but the struggle forced me to get better—at problem-solving, adapting, and really understanding people. Those challenges are exactly why the business is what it is today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Superior Fitness?
Superior Fitness Consulting was built on one simple belief: training should serve the person, not the program. We specialize in performance training, injury-informed strength development, and long-term athletic development for athletes and adults of all ages. While we can train any sport, we are especially known for our work in improving individuals’ quality of life and for helping injured or overlooked athletes return stronger, more confident, and more capable than before.
What sets us apart is experience—real, earned experience. Each individual session is a chance to learn. With over two decades in strength and conditioning, including collegiate athletics, professional environments, and private training, we don’t guess. Every program is customized based on the individual’s goals, injury history, movement quality, and lifestyle. Technique, intent, and intelligent progression matter here. We challenge people, sometimes unconventionally, but always with purpose.
We’re known for developing solutions where others see limitations. Whether it’s post-surgical rehab, chronic pain, or performance plateaus, our approach bridges the gap between rehabilitation and high-level performance—something many systems fail to do well.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation and trust. Parents trust us with their kids. Athletes trust us with improving their athletic ability. Adults trust us with their health. That doesn’t happen by accident—it’s earned through consistency, honesty, results, word of mouth.
I want readers to know that Superior Fitness Consulting is not a quick-fix gym or a trendy workout. It’s a place where people are coached, not just trained. Where faith, discipline, and work ethic still matter. Where progress is built over time, and where the goal isn’t just to look better—but to move better, perform better, and live better.
At the end of the day, our brand is about mental and physical impact. If someone walks away stronger, healthier, and more confident than when they came in, we’ve done our job. And that’s something I’ll always stand on.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe the fitness and performance industry is going to continue evolving rapidly, especially with the rise of AI, data tracking, and automated programming. Technology will play a bigger role in accessibility, convenience, and general guidance—but it will never replace true coaching. In fact, as AI becomes more common, the value of real human connection, experience, and discernment will increase.
Over the next 5–10 years, I believe there will be a clear divide in the industry: mass-produced, one-size-fits-all training on one end, and highly individualized, coach-driven environments on the other. The athletes and clients who want real results, longevity, and injury resilience will seek out professionals who understand people—not just numbers or algorithms.
My focus moving forward is doubling down on the human element—knowing the person in front of me, understanding their history, their movement, their mindset, and their goals. That’s something technology can assist with, but I don’t think it will ever replace it. The future belongs to coaches who can blend experience, intuition, and accountability with intelligent use of modern tools.
From a growth standpoint, I see Superior Fitness Consulting expanding to two additional locations, while maintaining the same standard of quality, culture, and individualized attention that defines our brand. Growth will never come at the expense of the client experience. Every member should feel known, coached, and valued.
Ultimately, I want our clients to have an experience they simply can’t find anywhere else—because at Superior Fitness, the individual always comes first.
