Meet Sandy Clark of Sandy Clark Photography in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Clark.

Sandy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My photography career began while I was living in New York. I began assisting a professional photographer and learned the business through hands-on experience. Soon, I found myself working for some of the biggest modeling agencies in New York City: Elite, Ford, Wilhelmina. I also had opportunities to meet and photograph some celebrities: Liza Minnelli, Joe Namath, William Christopher, Randy Travis, Larry Hagman, Debby Ryan. With regular work shooting models, I branched out into stock photography and more location photography that took me to ski resorts in Colorado, health spas in Florida, and beaches in the Bahamas and Hawaii. My work has appeared in several publications throughout the years: MERLE NORMAN COSMETICS, CANON, SONY, PENTAX, HYUNDAI, AMERICAN AIRLINES, BRIDAL GUIDE, GLAMOUR, COSMOPOLITAN, DELTA AIRLINES, PREVENTION. My photography work is considered beauty and lifestyle. Today, I focus my efforts on creating beautiful portraits and head shots for established, as well as, aspiring models, actors, corporate executives, social media accounts, engagement, graduation, and family portraits. Location and studio photography available. My work can be seen at: sandyclarkphotography.com

Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest challenge has been the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Modeling and talent agencies do not make their clients available for test shoots to build the actor and/or model’s portfolio. For example: I was recently in Los Angeles and had a day available to do some test shooting. I called a modeling agency that I had never spoken to before or met and after they saw my work on my website sent me four models to photograph TWO days later! It was a great experience for all involved. Along with a fabulous makeup artist, we spent the day shooting and getting images that everyone can benefit from. These images are currently on the agency’s website and in the models’ online portfolio. They actually want to know when I’ll be back again! But, in Dallas-Fort Worth – nothing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Today, I focus my efforts on creating beautiful head shots for established, as well as, aspiring models, actors, corporate executives, social media accounts, engagement, graduation, and family portraits. My specialty is photographing models and actors. I am most proud of delivering superior photos of my clients. I helped launch the career of Debby Ryan by being the first photographer to shoot her first headshots that landed her jobs in the Barney TV show and her first movie role. After she garnered the role as Bailey Pickett on Suite Life on Deck, she returned to Dallas-Fort Worth and we did a photo shoot in Southlake and the Fort Worth Stock Yards.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
No, I do not feel that Dallas-Fort Worth is a good place for a business like mine. If someone were just starting out, I would not recommend Dallas-Fort Worth. Honestly, Dallas-Fort Worth should stop being territorial and possessive about the modeling and acting industry. I’ve worked in both New York and L.A. and both these cities are OPEN to allow a freer collaborative effort and expression of creativity.
