Meet Sandy Nelles of Mod Facial Bar in Flower Mound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Nelles.

Mod Facial Bar was born after It’s founder Sandy Nelles, a busy mom of 3 decided after her last facial that she is tired of wasting hours of her day and paying exorbitant prices to have products smeared on her face with no real visible results. “I remember lying on the table having my Esthetician trying to sell me everything under the sun while smearing products on my skin (which looked great when I walked out but absolutely no difference in my skin even after regular once a month facials.” quoted Sandy Nelles. So for us, we believe the tradition of lying in a dark room for hours is a thing of the past. We created an open facial bar offering treatments that achieve incredible outcomes. We are not like other facial spas. We offer fresh hand made products on our spa bar along with medical style services.

At Mod Facial Bar, we believe beautiful skin begins with taking care of the largest organ of the body…the skin. It’s just like going to the gym you have to work out on a consistent basis to create a great body and perform regular maintenance to maintain a fit body. The skin is no difference. It’s the first thing people see when they see you and it’s the first thing you see when you look in the mirror every day. We don’t think twice about having our nails and hair done but we forget about our faces. At Mod Facial Bar, we want to change this misconception that facials are a luxury that produce no real results. We believe that beautiful faces aren’t just for celebrities. So we created Mod Facial Bar. We have invested in equipment and practices that celebrities are known for using on a regular basis but the great news is we make it affordable for everyday people like us.

Mod Facial Bar knows that their customers have busy schedules so we make taking care of your skin easy, affordable and effective. mod facial bar also wants to debunk that idea that facials are for women only. We believe men want to look and feel great about their skin too so we keep our services gender neutral. So invite your man, your bro, your son, your father, your friend…

We believe that making the world a better place begins with you and us. Together we not only make the difference in people’s faces but in their lives too.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting any business is a challenge. Mod Facial Bar was no difference. Shortly after opening, Scott (husband and co-founder) lost his job. He took the plunge and decided to no longer work for “the man” and is now working with Sandy full time managing the business.

We also have twin 3-year-old boys. So, trying to do any work at home after hours is a challenge. Imagine double trouble climbing on your back and head while you’re trying to type an email or work on the website.

Finding employees that want to work and who can maintain our high standards has been a real challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in effective and affordable skincare. Our focus is on facials that will make a difference in people’s appearance. We don’t want to give a relaxing experience only…we want it to make a real impact on your skin. So, we use advanced machines and techniques that feel great and produce great results.

We are getting known for our parties as well as facials. Our open concept facilitates that. Think wine, and horderves with 4 – 8 of your friends, chatting it up and having a fun and relaxing experience at the same time. There isn’t anything like this in Texas. We are the first facial bar in Texas.

We offer a membership program which is designed to give men and women of all ages effective and affordable skincare. …think about it, people get their fingernails taken care of every few weeks but many neglect to take care of the first thing that people see…your face! We want to make regular facials part of people’s regular self-maintenance.

What were you like growing up?
As a little girl, Sandy was always into mixing lotions and soaps and making her own skincare concoctions and perfume. She is highly creative. Sandy is a true southern belle. She is an excellent cook and embodies Southern Hospitality at its best.

She had a rough childhood. Grew up in the Columbus, Georgia area, (near Ft. Benning) she has had a lot of heartbreaks and challenges. Many of the kids she went to high school with are on drugs. Drugs seem to have a major foothold in that part of the country. She knew that she needed to get away from the poverty mentality and make more of herself, so she got into property management and left Georgia. She managed a number of large apartment complexes over the years and climbed the corporate ranks.

After moving to Dallas and meeting her husband, she ended up leaving the property management business. While Scott was deployed to Iraq with the Texas Army National Guard, she used a grant program to go to school for esthetics. She’s been practicing esthetics since around 2008.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
We are planning to open another location in Dallas in early 2018.
