Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Bitzer.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, Sara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was working in the hotel business in Florida and investing in real estate on the side when my family experienced a tragedy that made me realize I wanted to do more with my life than help people enjoy their vacation. My father is a realtor in Allen, Texas so I sold my house in Florida and quit my job to move to Texas and become a real estate agent. Even though it was very scary to leave everyone I knew behind, as well as a salaried position with a major hotel brand, I knew I wanted more.
Shortly after moving to Allen, I fell in love with Fort Worth and moved to Tarrant County. I didn’t know anyone so I worked hard to market my business through different online platforms and networking. My first full year in real estate, I helped seventeen families buy or sell their homes. The next year that number jumped into the thirties.
My goal as a realtor is to help my clients make one of the most important investments in their life. Many of them dream of the house they want to live in and watch lots of TV shows about buying, renovating and flipping property but they are scared to jump into the real estate world. I remove their fears by empowering my clients with the information they need to make the decisions that are right for them and their families.
Moving to Texas to become a realtor was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made, but I feel more fulfilled than ever before. I absolutely love working with my clients and providing them the highest levels of service so they can enjoy their experience and make their real estate dreams come true!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I definitely struggle with the financial management aspect of owning my own business because my priority is always taking care of my clients and I really don’t like to think about the money. Realtors wake up every day unemployed. We are independent contractors that are only paid when the sale of a home closes.
Real estate is also a very expensive industry. We pay for our licensing, dues, you have to pay for your broker and all the supplies and marketing materials for your business. On top of all of these expenses, we have to remember to pay our taxes because it is not taken out of our paychecks like a regular job and if you do not plan for that, you can fall behind by thousands of dollars.
You also have to be able to handle rejection. I am always looking for clients that are interested in working with me but many times, people will say “no” for various reasons. I work on reminding myself that the “no” is never about me personally which can be difficult sometimes because what I offer are my personal services.
All of the struggles that come along with owning your own business are manageable as long as you are paying attention and your heart is in the right place. The stress and struggles fade away when I see how happy my clients are when they get the keys to their new home!
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I work with all different types of clients from buyers, sellers, and investors to consumers that are just getting started and looking for more information. I provide life long service to my clients by always being available to answer questions about home maintenance and help connect them with vendors for repairs, maintenance or renovations.
I specialize in helping my clients through their real estate transactions by providing expert advice and giving them the road map from start to finish so there are no surprises. When I work with buyers, I start with a consultation to identify their needs and wants and review everything they can expect will happen when we look at homes and when we write offers. I talk to them about the cost of buying a home from the upfront charges to their monthly payments, so they always know we are staying within their budget.
When I work with sellers, I devise a marketing plan customized to their needs that will sell their home in the shortest amount of time for the highest price. I focus on maintaining frequent communication, providing feedback from buyers and make changes to our marketing plan as needed.
