Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Tynan.
Hi Sara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I had a miscarriage of twins in 2017 and was working in a corporate job. I knew if we wanted to have a family, I would have to lower my stress levels. I left corporate to work at a yoga studio as a member on their front desk team. They required all staff to practice yoga twice a week. I had a traumatic experience my first time trying yoga (three years prior to this) that ended in a ER trip with a severe concussion. Getting on a yoga mat again was scary and intimidating but something magical happened. I fell in love. I learned to listen to my body. I found yoga to calm my mind in such a way I had never experienced before. A year later, the studio awarded me the opportunity to attend yoga teacher training school. By my third day of training, I knew it: God put me on this earth to teach people yoga. To show all the ways to find peace and positivity in other’s lives was my purpose. As someone with a history of mental illness, I just knew this could change lives! So I started Sara Nicole Yoga and started teaching a variety of yoga styles, mindfulness, meditation and sound healing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My first day at yoga teacher training school I thought I would just die. It was so hard for me (physically). I felt very out of shape. The next day I came to my teacher in tears and she told me to stop making it into something it wasn’t. “All that’s actually happening is fatigue. Your muscles are tired. That doesn’t mean you can’t do this” Right when I felt like my business was finally taking off, COVID happened… I used the time of quarantine to dive into online trainings. I received certifications of mindfulness, life coaching, sound healing and then went on to start my 300 hour registered yoga training which will make me a 500-hour teacher!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a yoga instructor but it goes deeper than that. I teach a variety of yoga styles in studios. I teach in class settings, private lessons, birthday parties and even bachelorette parties! I lead a monthly mindfulness walk in my town. That gives me the opportunity to offer a free service to the community and teach others simple ways to bring mindfulness into their daily routine. What sets me apart from other business is the variety of services which include teaching Christ-centered yoga. I teach all my public classes in a secular setting but the message inside my heart is to spread the accepting love of Jesus Christ. I’m proud that I’ve continued to honor God through my business while accepting students of all beliefs. I also teach a large variety of ages. Something I’m really proud to be a part of is the ability to tour underfunded schools teaching elementary-aged children about body positivity and mindfulness through these yoga classes.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I definitely use the Bible for inspiration for my classes and themes!
